Hans Brix Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Anyone with an answer to this one? I was wondering as it would be a help to many people I would think. Also, how many stops will there be?
2008bangkok Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Here is the map it also shows what future stops are planned http://www.bts.co.th/en/map.asp When it opens is anyones guess
DP25 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 5 more stops, think it's supposed to open on August 12
theoldgit Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Should be open in time for the Olympic Games, the Bangkok Olympic Games. theoldgit
aussiebebe Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Yes, I agree with the previous poster, the new BTS line as far as La Salle Road (Sukhumvit 105 - don't know the name of the station) has been finished for over a year and is due to open in August. Safety testing has taken the time. The proposed route past that La Salle hasn't passed the planning phase, no work has started
dantilley Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 When it opens is anyones guess There's a big sign above the new stations stating that the opening date is August this year. Testing is due to start pretty soon - June I think? Anyway, 12th August is the opening date, pending any other further unexpected delays (which could of course happen, but no signs of any delays as of now which is promising).
theoldgit Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 My only concern with this extension is the increased number of passengers it will attract, after all that's the general idea. It's already pretty crowded during the rush hour, I think a lot more people will join the service from Bang Na, I just hope they are able to increase the length of the trains or increase the frequency when required and that the operators are not taken by surprise, as is normally the case. theoldgit

Agree. They will have to increase the length of the trains, as they did on the Silom line. Otherwise in the morning rush hour the train will be jammed full by the time it gets to On Nut. Can hardly imagine what the Siam station will be like. But it'll make it much easier to get to the ice rink at Imperial World!

There have been reports that the 4-carriage trains will eventually be applied to the Sukhumvit line also. On Nut in rush hour is quite busy but not ridiculously so - people can always get on at Phra Khanong and Ekkamai relatively easily, the most you see is perhaps a bit of jostling, but I've never seen people completely unable to enter the train. The situation on the Silom line which prompted the 4-carriage trains to be used is because of extensive delays caused by trains having to wait while approaching Saphan Taksin, which has only one platform so only one train can be in there at any time. Apparently this caused the trains to become much more crammed than what we see now on the Sukhumvit line.

But opening five stations beyond On Nut may change that. The trains from either direction will certainly be more crowded at On Nut.

True, but not all 5 are opening in August, it's only 2 (or is it 3?) for now. This gradual approach may help to avoid a sudden huge influx of passengers which could cause problems. By the time all 5 are open, for sure the 4-carriage trains will be in operation.
JusMe Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Wonder if there are any plans to move the Ekamai bus terminal further out. Getting on and off an eastern bus and onto the BTS would make travel much easier, rather than sitting for the long ride down Suk.
roiethome Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 The names of the new stations can be seen on the route boards in the new trains on Silom line. I was expecting the old three carriage trains to be deployed on Sukhumvit line to increase the frequency and thereby reduce congestion when the extension is ever opened
DP25 Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 They're going to be building several monorail lines that will be used to feed people in to the main Skytrain lines as well. When those are done it's going to get REALLY congested
Lakegeneve Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 There is a previous thread on this ext,http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/213667-bts-extension-udomsuk-station/page__pid__4347861__st__25#entry4347861. You can read why the ext has been delayed in post #30 and info on when BTSC will be purchasing extra cars for 4 car operation.
