Planning to drive down to Sukothai for a weekend with the family (kids aged 11 to 7) from Chiang Mai in the next few weeks.

I was last in Sukothai some 25 years ago so things have probably changed a little. Can anyone help me re suggestions for a fun weekend for all the family, where to stay, where to eat, where to visit?

thanks in advance.

Here's some of the places to see near Muang Kao village ( Sukhothai Old City) and it has Guest Houses and many places to stay, there are Resorts around and Hotels nearby.

There are many places to stay in Sukhothai new city as well about 12km away. As aways what you want varies from 350 - 3000 the choice is yours.

If limited to a single day trip, which items from this list would you think to be top priority? I have family coming in for my wedding at Loy Krathong. They have never been to Thailand before. I'm looking at planning a Sukothai day trip for them, as they will be staying in P-lok. Thanks in advance for any answer you are able to offer.

Phitsanulok is a steady hours drive to New Sukhothai where there's a river side Temple which is worth a look, there's nothing much else, in Sukhothai Old City ( Muang Kao ) if only a day obviously the main thing is the Historical Park and near are souvenir shops and small cafe' restaurants, the Museum is OK if you like that sort of thing. There are other places around the as the map shows and can be covered in a day with transport.

At Loi Krathong usually the village is buzzing with stalls of all kinds of merchandise and many other attractions.

Cheers, mate.

Yeah I will have them in one or two rented mini-vans with my partner's brother as an escort. So I figured it's pretty easy to go see one or two things in the morning, eat lunch, go see one or two other things, and then head back.

Yeah !!! Once you seen the Temple in new Sukhothai if it were me I would head off for Muang Kao 12 km away there is a Big ‘ C ’ on the way if tempted and 6 km on Muang Kao and Historical Park etc etc.

The are some Thai European restaurants in the village that do inexpensive Thai food as well but western foods are more expensive and beer is expensive.

There are also Thai food only restaurants as well which usually will sell beer at reasonable prices if asked.

My Mrs little café restaurant in the park as map serves various Thai meals ranging from 20 – 50 and soft drinks etc are cheap but if you want beer again ask for Thai price.

Have a good day, Regards K
