I was half expecting the telephone call after reading about Toyota's production problems in Thailand on ThaiVisa and other media scources.

On 22nd Feb I placed an order for a new Vigo Hilux doublecab 3.0L Auto (Super White) and put down 5000 Baht holding fee.

Finance and trade in price for our current pickup truck agreed too.

The dealer said up to 6 to 8 weeks delivery time.

Well this morning the local Toyota dealership called and informed Mrs PT2 that the truck would be not coming and no idea when due to Toyota's Thailand plants shift reduction days etc, starting this Monday.

Would we like to hang on or cancel the order?

.

Well after mulling it over for most of this afternoon we have decided to cancel and we can get our 5,000 Baht back - once "big boss" at the dealership comes back from his hols!.

A little disappointed, however, compared to the problems in Japan after the earthquake/Tsunami should not be kicking the dog too much.

LEO time and a strategy for a new truck is called for and have just informed Mrs PT2 that in the words of Captain Oates "I am just going outside and may be some time". Brits who went to Grammar school in the 60's will know what I mean!

Treat it as a good omen, and wait another 5 months for the Ranger T6, or another 7 months for the new Colorado/Isuzu ;)

In fact, if you put the 5K baht down on a (as yet non-existent) T6 Ranger now, you'd probably still get it before the VIGO minor change comes :)

Just out of interest how did you arrange the finance? did it have to be in the wifes name? I am looking at replacing my triton next year but I am not married.

Probably worthy of it's own thread, but the short of it is you'll need a Thai guarantor and somewhere between 25% and 50% downpayment the first time around - after that (assuming 10/10 score on each repayment) you'll be able to take full advantage of all campaigns Thais can get, with the added advantage of zero Gleng-Jai to obscure negotiations :)

Well, assuming you haven't been Thai-iifed to the point of installing chrome B-pillar covers by then - (J/K!) :D

Yep it seems that Toyota will again relinquish their #1 spot to, of all companies, the formerly bankrupt GM in the coming months I mentioned back when the recalls began the door was open again as Toyota was experiencing the very same process that haunts every top producer and that is losing a grip on their QC. Then to multiply the problem they had a massive interruption with the quake and Tsunami.

It's actually quite an accomplishment that GM was able to hold the top spot for so many consecutive years and what a come back..

toyota altis CNG at 840 k baht, Tanachart just accepted 10% down without Thai guarantor. My 4th car financed in my name. No work permit, not married.

Yeah I didn't want to be contradictory or argumentative but there are those who will finance a car without a Thai guarantor especially if you have a work permit with a bit of work history, just don't take mai chai for an answer..
