New York Yankees win eighth straight American East Pennant Title!

r_yankees_372.jpg

WHOOOOOOHAAAH!!!!!

Way to go , Yanks!

Beating those whiny Red Sox ( 8 - 4 ) in the second of three weekend games today!

(Thanks to homers from Alex Rodriguez, Gary Sheffield and Hideki Matsui , plus some magic from Randy Johnson! )

I knew it was won when Rivera ( Mario, the closer ) caught that flyball from Johny Damon ( America Thai Leuk-Krung BTW ) to make the final out of the inning, and the game!

As the Brits ( or is is the Austrailians? I forgot ) say, Good on ya!

:o

So this win clinches the New York Yankees going to the Playoffs.... And Thanks for Chicago ( White Sox , Yankees best friends right now.... :D ) for beating Cleaveland ( Indians ), Clinching the AL East Pennant for New York. .....And to do the Celebrating at Fenway locker room no less!

:D

( Through a quirk in baseball's rules, the Yankees (95-66) won ( or "clinched" ) the division the division over Boston (94-67) because of Cleveland's loss to Chicago in the AL Central. The loss by the Indians (93-68) eliminated the possibility of a three-way tie - And an unprecedented two-game, three-team tiebreaker, and gave New York the East title because the Yankees clinched the season series by virtue of their 10 - 8 record against Boston. )

If Boston loses to the Yanks on Sunday and Cleveland wins their game , that means that the Sox will be a Wild Card winner, and they will meet at Fenway Park on Monday to decide the AL's last playoff berth. Now If Cleveland loses on Sunday, the Red Sox still get the wild-card spot no matter what they do.

Confused? :D

Anyway, I do believe that the Red Sox Curse is back in effect.... :D

This was a very hard year for us Yank fans, the team really had it hard this year with a whole lot of crappy stuff going on. Sometimes ( often, really ) I even wondered if they would even make it to the playoffs! But I am so happy for those guys, they really had to work for it really hard this season.

( I know this thread will get only one or two replies in this forum, most likely from bored British Soccer fans saying something sarcastic, but heck, I don't care, I'm happy! )

I can't wait for Tuesday! :D

With the Yankee payroll being almost twice what the nearest competitor has to spend on players, they had better win pennants and WS's.

I grew up a Brooklyn Dodger fan ...... gotta love the underdog and as a result I hated the Yankees for years and years. But now I gotta admit that they do have great teams .... the ones that big money can buy. Matsui is a machine; Bernie is great; Rod is overpaid but delivers; and Sheffield is an ace.

Not fair they have all that money ... but neither is life.

After last year's humiliation at Fenway, maybe they should get a win this year. We'' see.

Cheers

I think the Yanks will have a good post-season, as they are peaking at the right time.

In the last 3 years, they stormed through the season, won a ton of games, then burned out.

I hope they win it, as if they don't, I won't be allowed to watch ESPN Games on my Bronx buddy's cable channel if they get eliminated.

I'll start by saying that I'm a Dodger fan -- disappointed again!

Personally, I don't think the Yankees have a real claim to the title yet. As it stands, they could be in a tie for the division title if Boston wins tomorrow. They will be declared winners only because they won more games than Boston against each other. To me, a tie is a tie and should be settled with a playoff.

True, the idea of two team ties are silly, in my opinion. I agree, a tie ought to mean a playoff, just like they will do for the wildcard. Anyway, New York and Boston may have tied in the East, but the Yanks are still in the Playoffs. Only way the Red sox won't make it is if Cleaveland ( Indians ) win today, and then beat them in a one game play off ( see below... ). :o

Now as for which teams going to face off for the AL Divisional Pennant, Well things start getting confusing, Even I had to consult my favorite newspaper, the New York Daily News... :D

The Yankees will play the Angels at Yankee Stadium in the first round, and the Red Sox will face the White Sox in Chicago if:

Both the Yankees and the White Sox win today.

The Yankees and the Indians win today, but the Red sox beat the indians in a one -day palyoff tomorrow.

The Red Sox win today and the Angles lose.

The Yankees will play the Indians at Yankee Stadium in the first round, And the Angels will visit the White Sox if:

The Yankees and Indians win today, and the Indians beat the Red Sox tomorrow in a one- game playoff.

The Yankees will go visit the Angels in the first round, and the Red Sox will play in Chicago against the White Sox if:

The Red Sox win today and the Angels win.

Here in New York, the third game will start at 1:30 pm, so until then....

Remember what happened in 1978 anyone? :D:D

Wonder what's happening in the National leauge...... :D

Yes baby, Yanks lose to Tigers. series tied 1-1. we go to Detroit with Kenny Rogers on the mound. I see Tigers winning next 2 games in motor city and sending Yanks home in division series yet again. Let's Go Mets. Ya Gado Believe, that Del Gado

After that performance by 'Kenny Rogers' I think the fat lady maybe singing 'country & western' very soon...

for the Tigers. :o

They only have a youngster starting the next game so who knows ??

So Sweet! :D

But the ALDS series is not finished yet, there is till one more game for them to play, I have to admit those Yanks have a very strong lineup, and they do have a tendency to rally when their back is against the wall, so let's see what happens.... :o

I'm not a Detroit fan, but today I am! :D

We have a perfect game being tossed into the 5th inning by Bonderman of the Tigers over these hapless 200 million dollar Yanks. How about that!?>

Life is good. Life is Grrrrrrreat!

I'm happy to hear that your life has meaning now.... :o
