My Thai girlfriend is keen to do some Indian cookery lessons. I remember seeing an ad on the classifieds, ages ago, that seemed to be a small scale operation (possibly from the woman's home). Does anyone know anything about this or any other Indian cookery classes in Chiang Mai, that aren't gear towards tourists?

Thanks

I was recently at Spicey Bollywood and saw adverts there for Indian cooking classes, (also saw the new Indian waitresswub.gif).

Not quite the same, but I've found the internet a Godsend. So many of the Indian recipe sites have streaming video's and you really can't go wrong with them. And they're free. I've read dozens of recipes over the years on making chappati bread but have never had the confidence. Saw a site with a video where the nice lady took you through it step by step and I copied what she did. It really worked (and was nice). Most of these sites are for the Indian middle class or expats living in the west so are in English.

OP - If you find somewhere that teaches how to make good Indian food, please take the owners and cooks from the Chiang Mai restaurants with you.

This might not be much help, but I also remember seeing an advert on Thaivisa classifieds for Indian cooking lessons. It said 200 baht (probably excluding ingredients) which is what caught my attention. This may be the same place, as I'm sure larger establishments would be looking for more than 200. I had a look today but couldn't find any info on it.

If you find anything, please let me know as my girlfriend would also be interested.

Just had another quick look and typing 'indian cooking thaivisa chaing mai' into google brings up

Though when you click on it, it says that the ad expired in January. Is this the place you saw?

Two other things, to start. If she learns to cook, there are heaps of recipes on the internet. You may also be able to buy Indian Recipe books in shops in Little India. Now, if you need ingredients, May I recommend ::Nisa Sachdev , 329 Soi Protooleck Lek (near Gurdwara), Chackraphet Road, ,Pranakorn, 10200. This shop is the best for Indian imported foodstuffs in Thailand. It is where the Indian cooks all shop. She does do mail-order( C.O.D, Post Office), as well. But I recommend anyone to make one visit to the shop ,to be sure you know exactly what it is you need to get. Happy Eating, Bill
