Wife & Child

Featured Replies

Good friend in Australia - Thai wife and now one (and only) daughter born in Australia.

Husband will travel on Australian passport with visa as usual - No probs.

Wife is Thai with permanent Australian residence and will travel on her Thai passport as usual - (Intention is to stay for est 6 months) - No probs.

Daughter will be 6 months at time of travel she is an Australian citizen (father Aust & she is born in Aust) - also as I understand a Thai citizen (one parent being a Thai national).

The dilemma is how can the daughter remain in Thailand with mother for the 6 month period?

There is no overstay problem for children so she can enter with an Oz passport (get child own passport) and 30 day stay stamp and when leave get an overstay mark but no fine or problem. I would also start the Thai passport process through the Embassy so in the future she can travel the same as mother - using Thai passport to enter/depart Thailand.

lopburi3 Thanks for the advice Unfortunately my friend has experienced difficulties with Thai Immigration at Don Muang in the past (wifes passport) and would like to ask is there any other way the daughter can travel and stay for the 3/6 months with her mother.

He just doesn't want to risk some over zealous Immg Officer applying his/her own interpretations to his daughters detriment.

She should be able to obtain a multi entry O non immigrant visa and wife take for visa runs if he is paranoid about it.

I take it this bad incident may be the reason for not going through the process of getting daughter a Thai birth certificate/passport but would really urge talking with Thai Embassy as not everyone has an attitude.

There is absolutely no problem whatsoever getting a Thai Birth Certificate and Passport from the Thai embassy in Canberra for your daughter. As long as she enters Thailand on the Thai PP, she can stay as long as she needs to.

Thanks guys - there is not a problem maybe just a distance concern for getting onto the Thai Embassy (Friend currently resides in Apple Tree Creek Qld). I have sent him a patch to this thread so I am sure he will work on the good solid advice provided.

Once again thanks (on behalf of another "B") for the effort.
