Please excuse my lack of simple telecommunication technology, but my True fixed line is not working, and hasn't been for many days, though my True Internet is working as normal. I thought that the signals came down the same line and then split, and would have thought that if the telephone didn't work then neither would my internet. this could where my lack of simple telecommunication technology kicks in.

I have called True, twice, and each time they send me an sms saying that the line is now working properly and if the problem persists I should contact my building maintenance. The building maintenance guy, who is usually pretty god, is saying it's True, adding that one of my neighbours has no internet either.

Now I'm piggy in the middle and have no landline, anyone got any idea?

It's always possible you have a duff phone or a broken wire somewhere in the house.

Have you tried another phone?

Try plugging the phone directly into the outlet.

What are your actual symptoms, if you blow into the handset can you hear the sound in the earpiece?

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

First thing I tried was plugging the phone line directly into the outlet and no joy, and thought it might be a duff phone, so brought a new one and again no joy.

No dialing tone and if I call my number it doesn't ring, even tried blowing into the handset, as you suggested, and cannot hear the sound in the earpiece.

I have a TOT phone line with adsl. Last week we had a thunderstorm in the area......after the storm, I couldn't receive/make phone calls (no dial tone either), but the adsl worked fine. I called TOT (on my mobile). They called my mobile back the next day and said it was fine. I indeed had the standard phone signal. But when I tried to call, I only got busy signals....no matter what number I called.

I hurried down to the local school where the network station box is located and, lucky for me, the technician was still at the box. I told him my problem. He pulled the wire out from the circuit and reset it. Problem solved.

Your call-out has been blocked by TOT. Just try calling your number and you'll be surprise you can receive calls.

Thanks, but as I said, "and if I call my number it doesn't ring"

There is something odd going on with True phone lines..

now over 3 months sometimes the phone has a dial tone but mostly not, there was no tone at all yesterday but so far this morning there is, 8 other houses in the Village have the same problem [may well be more but 8 in my Village are friends]

The next Village up another English guy has the same problem, he has spoken to all his Thai neighbors and says there all the same..

The ones with Internet no problem, just the phone.

True Engineers have been 3x to me and the house next + across the road, No there is NO dial tone on the Engineers phone from the box outside, so is not our phone or phone line cable inside the house.

For us around where I live maybe is a good thing because of this problem True are installing a new line = we will be able to get 10 MB internet, we already signed the new contract end last month for the new service.
