Tha Phra - Khon Kaen & Around?

Featured Replies

Any TV members living in that area? Wondering about areas that may flood, price of 1 rai size NS3 or chanode land. Any caveats about the area.

Thanks

The good lady and I are seriously considering a move up to Khon Kaen ourselves later on.

We have stayed many times in the city when visiting Issan and we both like the atmosphere of the place.

Hopefully some of you guys living up that way can furnish us with some useful information.

I live very close to Thapra and my wife's home village is Nongbuademe which is in Thapra. Nongbuademe has the biggest bear in Thailand. It's made of concrete.

Thapra is only a few km from Khon Kaen proper, but is very rural. Mittraparp Rd goes right through the middle of it.

It has a post office (code 40260), bank or two and even a railway station.

A good market there on a Monday evening.

Only a couple of songtows go there from Khon Kaen, but it has easy road access to Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Mahasarakham.

A couple of posts have been deleted.

Hi Lungbing,

Is land along the river prone to flooding?

  • 2 months later...

The bear was flooded late last year !

A lot of Tha Phra as well.

Somebody opened the wrong gates down in Chaia Phum !

Or some apid for it.

There is now more then 170 meter taxis in Khon Khaen, so transport is no problem.

Chanode land for building a decent sized house (2 ngan .. 1 rai preferred) seems especially expensive in Meaung district (my experiencew suggests Bt 400,000/ngan minimum) .. and the district is huge. So I'm looking a few / several km outside. The farang selling the land in Tha Phra bumped the asking price 30% when I got serious .. and that is with no electricity and no roads.

I also don't like the prospect of filling a rice field as required in many areas.

Going too far north (west of #2) is problematic because of the mountain of garbage.

Don't want to go too far from songtaew routes that go to good wet markets as my wife doesn't drive and I'm pretty darned lazy about driving. Wife is also a bit of a klutz so motorbike trips need to be short and safe.

Wife's local knowledge (flooding, horrendous traffic, noisy area) means avoiding a few areas as well.

Many remote areas where I could live happily (I think) scare the wife .. "no other houses around" .. and since she will likely survive me, the place needs to be either "future friendly" or easy to sell.

Still looking for that semi-perfect spot.
