High Hopes In Pattaya For The New Airport

Featured Replies

High hopes for the new Suwanapoom Airport in Bangkok.

The much publicized Suwanapoom Airport in Bangkok is less than a year from opening its doors to domestic and international flights. During the next few months, airport management are feverishly promoting the new airport to local government and business operators to ensure that from the day it opens its doors it becomes one of the busiest airports in the world. For us here in Pattaya, the airport is only 100 kms from us and on a good run is only 45 minutes away by road. Khun Niran, the Mayor of Pattaya and senior members of his administration along with representatives from the Pattaya Business and Tourism Club were invited up to the airport to see for themselves the many facilities offered by the airport and how it could potentially increase tourism numbers to Pattaya and the rest of the eastern seaboard because of its close proximity to the area. The Mayor was impressed with the airport and its facilities and is confident that Pattaya will dramatically change because of it.

100ks in 45 minutes i no the thais drive fast but i very much doubt that quick.

I was told about this airport opening in 1997 !!! Amazing Thailand :D

the new one is actually outdated now and is going to be replaced by a new one opening in 2 years, that will also be 15 years behind plan :D I love this country. :D

Seriously though, for those of us who go to Patters and Jomtien it's great news but who wants to bet a thousand baht it get's put back again :o

Hmmm they have been remodeling Don Muang perhaps that should be an indicator it might be some time before we see the new airport open. I'm wagering 2008. :D

Although the new airport willl benefit Pattaya a little, it is not a Disneyand or anything like that. It is still an hour and 20 minute drive, and once the traffic increases, it wil take longer

If the government wants to improve Pataya, they should repair the sidewalks.

I BET THE TAXIS FARES WILL STILL BE THE SAME FROM THE NEW AIRPORT TO PATTAYA

:o

Oh not the same at all.... there's bound to be a few extra "new airport" charges. :D

cv

The BKK-PTY highway is already clogged by tankers, trucks with sea containers, buses, motobikes etc etc and in bad repair to boot.

The new airport should add to this. When it opens.

There was also talk in 2007 a big Pattaya promotion to try get Thai tourists travelling back anybody got anymore news on this :o

:o 2yrs?

Heard they want to develop the beach side w/hotels and resorts. Push all the beerbars and gogos back to Soi Diana. Any rate - this will take more than 2 years in my view and as construction projects go - more likely take decade or more. However better do smth about the beach/water if they are really serious.

I think the sheduled delay will be also delayed, or maybe they find some corruption (no no that can not be....) and wait a few years to clear than....

Sorry i forgot a Thai 2 yrs is dog years so more like 14 human yrs :o

They have just built a new Lumpinee stadim for boxing approx 5km away from the one on Rama 4 rd after greasing palms it was finished 3 yrs late at a cost of 72,000,000 baht :D & now they have now agreed the traffic there is too bad so now looking at building one nearer the airport @ the same cost :D
