June 14, 201114 yr My girlfriend listed the person she is travelling with (DS-160 form) as FRIEND. She is traveling with me and I am her boyfriend. But on the application form there is no choice for boyfriend. There is an OTHER box. She is now concerned that she will be told to leave and come back with a new confirmation form after she changes it to OTHER. Is she thinking too much or are they really so strict that they will not accept the application in this case?
June 15, 201114 yr I can't recall what my gf put on the app but friend sounds about right. You are not married and presumably not her fiance. I would personally not put other. You are more a friend than an "other". Other just complicates it. You are most certainly a friend. The only issue would be, how great an extent. That would be pretty harsh to reject her because she thought you a friend more than an other I think! What else could you be? Boy/girlfriend is really so US vernacular. Fiance - hell you've got the wrong visa type! You might wait about and see if someone else can chime in before pushing that button of no return, but I think that's what you want. Also warning when you get to the end - very misleading... My gf put her app together, I reviewed it. At the end it asks, did you complete the app yourself? Well, we wanted to be totally honest. I did review it. BUT....if you click THAT button what its actually is for is if someone else created the entire app on your behalf! Say...an agency for money or a tour company. Careful.
June 15, 201114 yr Author She went to the interview on Monday. They asked her if she filled out the application herself. She said that her boyfriend helped her some. They told her that that last question you are referring to then must have my name and address. They sent her away and told her to fill out a new DS-160 and include my info this time and come back in a week - thus her paranoia about the friend/other question...
June 16, 201114 yr Author Yeah, if you had any help at all then you should say so and insert the name and address of person who helped you...
June 16, 201114 yr Your girlfriend needs to be honest and clear with the Embassy staff that you are her boyfriend, If you have lived together in Thailand, where and how long. A friends Fiance was recently refused a tourist visa to the USA because she said "He is only my Friend".
June 16, 201114 yr Author Your girlfriend needs to be honest and clear with the Embassy staff that you are her boyfriend, If you have lived together in Thailand, where and how long. A friends Fiance was recently refused a tourist visa to the USA because she said "He is only my Friend". Thanks. She is trying to be completely and utterly honest. There are pages and pages of documents about me and also showing my relationship with her. Unfortunately the application is not so clear. For example, when it asks who you're going with, why doesn't it list Girlfriend / Boyfriend as an option??? That's a common state of relationship for much of the planet. The part about 'did you receive help with this application' was interpreted by her and myself to mean 'did an agency or company help you complete this'. Apparently since they sent her home to fill out another application, that is not the case. I will keep you updated. It would be great to hear from someone who has applied as a boyfriend or girlfriend to the applicant. I would like to know if they checked FRIEND or OTHER.
