SweRob Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Hey all. Im using a shared internet line in my condo. It seems to be provided from a provider called 3BB. I get really really good downloadspeeds, using torrent sites etc i usually downlad at 300-400kb/s. And all the speedtest sites i test my connection with i get 5mb download speed. The thing is i would like to do some online gaming, and when it comes to gaming its not so much the download speeds that matter, its the ping/latency rates. When i ping servers in Europe and the US i end up around 600ms, no packet loss, so thats good atleast. But in order to play online games i need to ATLEAST have a ping at 300ms, preferably much lower then that. Do you think my ping rates will improve if i get a personal ADSL line installed? Anyone with for example a True ADSL line in Bangkok who can do a ping test against some European/US servers and report back on what ping rates you are getting? This would be really helpfull in order for me to decide if a personal ADSL line is worth getting or not.
SweRob Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Strange. Now when i go to pingtest.net it says that im using Cat Telecom, at the same time when i go to 3BBs speedtest it says im using True Internet. What gives lol.

DP25 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 You're never going to get much below 300. I can get about 200 to west coast US, but east coast and Europe are usually about 300 and up. Your 600 is a lot higher than I get in BKK on True. Some games have local servers in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore that you can get 30-100 ping to. Other games you just have to deal with higher ping.

An stable 300ms ping rate will suffice. Playing against Asia servers will not be an option for me, even if they provide Asia servers, since after another year or so im looking to move back to Europe, and then my char would be stuck on a Asia server.
