The Thai consulate in Houston has notified me today that they will NOT honor my request for a 1 year Multiple Entry Non-Immigrant B Visa.

According to the consulate, the rules have changed, and can not offer multi-entry business visas. She would be able to offer a one-entry visa only, and I must then apply in Thailand.

I have traveled on 1 year non-imm B Visas issued by this consulate for 5+ years (?).

This is a huge change.

If you need to travel to Thailand frequently on business for your employer you should be able to get a multiple-entry non-B visa. I suggest you call the consular section of the Thai embassy in Washington to ask what documents they need for this.

Thanks ... but you might have missed this part:

He told you to ask the embassy, not the consulate in Houston.

It might be that some consulate are no longer allowed to issue multiple non-B's, but that others and the embassy still issue them.

On what basis were they giving you the non B? Do you have a work permit that goes along with it? Any reason why a non O wouldn't work for you (other than the fact that maybe you don't qualify)? Why wouldn't multiple tourist visas work? I know people that enter and leave Thailand on a very frequent basis for a number of years that are on tourist visas and they don't seem to have a problem. Perhaps if you explained why you need a B visa then someone else can point you in the right direction.

I'd be very surprised if Houston couldn't issue you a non B visa if all paperwork was correct.

Travelled for what purpose?

(You have to deal with a lot of static when you post on Thai Visa!)

That's too bad about Houston. I used them a few times over the years.

El Paso honorary consulate used to be quite friendly, although its been several years since I used them. Give them a call though, you never know. I would get the list of honorary consulates fromt the Thai Embassy website and then call each one to check the requirements.

Yes, Houston was one of the last "bastions of freedom" ... :) Thanks for the suggestions ... I'm considering that now.
