Hi,

I am a South African who wants to spend three (3) months in Thailand going to a Mauy Thai boxing camp and generally travelling around. I would really appriciate it if anyone could help me with a few queries I have:

1. Is it possible to leave and re-enter Thailand on an ordinary tourist visa (60 days)?

2. Is it possible to get a one month extension on a tourist visa in Thailand? And do you have to do this in Bangkok or can you do it other places, like Chiang Mai?

3. Is there any kind of tourist visa that is valid for more than 60 days?

Thanks guys

1. Yes but it would require a re entry permit prior to travel and each permit costs 1,000 baht.

2. Yes. All full service immigration offices.

3. Yes and no. There is no tourist visa of more than 60 days but it is normal to extend that visa for 30 days so it is often called 90 days. There is a non immigrant O visa which can be used for visiting friends/tourist type travel that allows 90 day entry. Obtaining these is subject to the rules of the Consulate involved and normally requires more than an airline ticket.
