Cheney Faces Investigation In Plamegate

Featured Replies

As some political patronage, someone threw him a bone and made him an ambassdor, not to some high profile place like Austria or Belgium, but to Gabon of all places. They gave him the job because no one else wanted it.

Low level political patronage. He wanted more. He wanted to be more. Read the CNN interview with Wolf Blitzer. The line marked in bold type is interesting. The guy wants attention and recognition

Aired October 31, 2005 - 16:00 ET

BLITZER: Even though some of your supporters were on this program last week -- Larry Johnson, a former CIA officer; Pat Lang, a former DIA intelligence analyst. They say your decision and your wife's decision to let her be photographed represented a major mistake because, if there were people out there who may have been endangered by her name, certainly when people might have seen her picture, they could have been further endangered.

WILSON: Her contacts and her network was endangered the minute that Bob Novak wrote the article. The photograph of her did not identify her in any way anybody could identify.

Now you asked me this question -- you've asked me this question three or four times...

BLITZER: About the photograph?

WILSON: About the photograph.

Now, I have never heard you ask the president about the layout in the Oval Office when they did the war layout. I've never heard you ask Mr. Wolfowitz about the layout in Vanity Fair. But you ask me all the time.

So let me just get this very clear: When one is faced with adversity, one of the ways one acts in the face of adversity is to try and bring a certain amount of humor to the situation. It's called irony.

And if people have no sense of humor or no sense of perspective on that, my response is: It's about time to get a life.

But in no way did that picture endanger anybody. What endangered people was the outing of her name --her maiden name -- and, subsequently, the outing of the corporation that she worked for.

BLITZER: So you don't have any regrets about the Vanity Fair picture?

WILSON: I think it's a great picture. I think someday you will, too.

BLITZER: It's a great picture. But I mean the fact that...

WILSON: I think someday it, too, will be in the International Spy Museum.

BLITZER: But you don't think it was a mistake to do that?

WILSON: No.

BLITZER: OK.

So Wilson claims his wife is a secret agent which is very serious business and yet for laughs he and she pose for Vanity Fair magazine.

Clinton was impeached. The procedure was successfully carried out by the House of Representatives. The Senate chose not to convict. Part of the deal to avoid becoming a convicted felon Clinton agreed to give up his law licence for five years and he cannot present a case before the Supreme Court.

Clinton wasn't spared a conviction and shame. ( I happen to think he is shameless) The Senate spared the office of the presidency. Clinton just happended to luck out in a Clinton sort of way that our leaders felt it was was more important to preserve the history of the presidency. But that was Clinton, leaving skid marks everywhere as he wiped his ass on things. Others who wished to perserve the institutions cleaned up after him. The guy was a nonstop crime wave right up til they wrestled the pardoning pen out of his hands. Someone must have shouted as they wrestled,"Your not president anymore Mr. President!" As his presidency was in it's last few days. The press were talking him up and paying him honor and what does he do? He pardons Mark Rich and some drug dealers from California and Florida. It was his last big "fk you!". He made the press look like fools because the press scourged him during the Lewinsky thing.

Mark Rich is the guy who made a bunch of cash off the UN Oil for Food Scandal. He fled the country. His ex-wife Denise,

(getting the picture?), she visited the White House 13 to 19 times. She donated 1 million dollars to the DNC and $450,000 to the Clinton Library. She qualifies as a trooper and possibly a champ.

Probably earned her "presidential kneepads" as well. But here's the rub, how did she find any room under the desk? That Lewinsky is a big girl too!

You know a guy is a complete dirtbag when the clock on his 15 minutes of fame says 14:51 and all of his supposed friends and allies are running far and fast in the opposite direction. Even the anti-Bush media is having a field day with him.

Two questions:

- Will this guy still be married to her in 10 years time? (I doubt it. He shagged about on his first wife. What are the odds on the second?)

- Will this guy have avoided prison in 10 years time, for "outing her" and other nefarious activities? (I doubt it. He's got a very long list of enemies. Grudges last a long time. Sh*t rolls downhill and he's a bottom feeder. Not too hard to do that math.)

Nice tits :o

Yes and I bet they did all the talking once they got Bill alone in the Oval OffIce. I chose not to cross pollinate so they aren't going in the Tits thread.

Woodward testifies in new twist to CIA leak probe

17.11.05 1.00pm

WASHINGTON - Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward testified this week that a senior Bush administration official told him about CIA operative Valerie Plame nearly a month before her identity was publicly disclosed, a sign prosecutors are exploring new leads in the leak investigation.

The disclosure of Woodward's sworn deposition comes more than two weeks after charges were brought against Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, and after special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald said the bulk of his investigation was concluded.

The development also raised questions about Woodward's past statements about Fitzgerald and his investigation. One of the two Post reporters who led the newspaper's coverage of the 1970s Watergate scandal that brought down President Richard Nixon, Woodward has publicly dismissed the leak investigation as laughable and referred to Fitzgerald as "a junkyard dog." On the eve of Libby's indictment, Woodward said he saw no evidence of criminal intent -- only to disclose publicly today that he met with Libby on June 27, 2003, and that it was possible Plame was discussed. "I had no recollection," Woodward said.

Woodward said he was first contacted by Fitzgerald's office on Nov. 3, one week after Libby's indictment.

In a first-person account in The Washington Post, Woodward said he testified for two hours under oath about interviews with three current or former administration officials, including Libby. He did not name the other two.

Woodward's testimony was given in a law office instead of under subpoena before a grand jury.

For two years, Fitzgerald has been investigating who leaked the identity of Plame, whose diplomat husband, Joseph Wilson, questioned Bush administration claims that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction, or WMD.

"I was first contacted by Fitzgerald's office on Nov. 3 after one of these (three) officials went to Fitzgerald to discuss an interview with me in mid-June 2003 during which the person told me Wilson's wife worked for the CIA on weapons of mass destruction as a WMD analyst," Woodward wrote.

Woodward characterized the mention of Plame in the interview as "casual and offhand," and said it did not appear to be classified or sensitive.

The interviews occurred while Woodward was researching a book about events leading to the Iraq war.

Plame's identity was first published in a column by journalist Robert Novak on July 14, 2003. This was shortly after Wilson published a newspaper opinion piece that accused the administration of twisting intelligence on Iraq, ignoring doubts he raised after a CIA-funded trip to investigate whether Iraq had tried to buy "yellowcake" nuclear material in Niger.

But Woodward's disclosure cast doubt on Fitzgerald's assertion that Libby was the first official to have told a reporter about Plame. Fitzgerald was referring to a June 23, 2003, meeting that Libby had with then-New York Times reporter Judith Miller. In his testimony, Woodward cited interviews that took place earlier that same month.

President George W. Bush's top political adviser, Karl Rove, was not indicted. But lawyers in the case said Rove remained under investigation and may still be charged.

Robert Luskin, Rove's attorney, said Rove was not the unnamed official who first told Woodward about Plame. Woodward may have spoken to Rove as part of his book research, but "he is absolutely, positively not the source for this information," Luskin said.

Fitzgerald has questioned several witnesses about Cheney's role in the leak case. Libby learned from Cheney himself on June 12, 2003, that Wilson's wife worked in the CIA's counterproliferation division. Cheney spokeswoman Lea Anne McBride said he has co-operated with the investigation.

Woodward said he had obtained confidentiality waivers from all three sources. The three included Libby, who resigned in October upon being indicted on obstruction of justice and perjury charges in the leak probe

He said he told Libby he was sending an 18-page list of questions he wanted to ask of Cheney which included a reference to "yellowcake." He did not say whether he interviewed Cheney.

Woodward testifies in new twist to CIA leak probe

And ..... er ..... um .....

This would be the same Bob Woodward who nominated for a Pulitzer, protected and defended a complete fraud who worked directly for him and who approved the piece of garbage to be published in the first place:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janet_Cooke

This would be the same Bob Woodward who protected a source who commited felony acts and abuse of oath and power while carrying out a personal vendetta against a presidency?

The guy is a complete scumbag, totally lacking in ethics and character.

If the special prosecutor is calling this chump in to testify, he is definitely scraping the bottom of the barrel to try and make a case.

Woodward and this as*hole Joe Wilson are cut from the same cloth, both world class bottom feeders without an ounce of personal or professional integrity, and willing to do whatever is necessary to feather their nests and cover their a*ses.

Sounds like Cheney and Rove.

Woodward apologizes for silence on CIA agent

18.11.05 9.20am

Washington Post newspaper assistant managing editor Bob Woodward tried to fend off criticism over revelations that he didn't reveal to his bosses that a top Bush Administration official had told him the name of a CIA operative.

"Journalism is a contact sport," he said.

Woodward said he apologised to Post executive editor Leonard Downie for not telling him until last month that he had learned about Valerie Plame and her work at the CIA more than two years ago.

"I hunkered down more than I usually do."

NZ Herald

"I hunkered down more than I usually do."

What crapola!

This is just Beltway insider-speak for saying "I didn't bother publishing it because it was already common knowledge and didn't think it was news anyway."

The fact is the Post would love to stick it up the gazoo of another Republican presidency and would do so in a heartbeat if they had the chance. If Woodward "knew something" or "had some dirt" on the Bush White House 3 years ago, he would have been the last person in the world to keep it quiet.

This just more evidence that when all is said and done, not a <deleted>' thing will ever come of this Beltway boondoggle.

Or the Clintons - Arkansa trailer trash! :o

The Clintons were many things but not trailer trash. They were good people. I am surprised how people can be so wrong. They will support a self-centered idiot like Bush but will demonize a great president who was only good for his country and the world. I guess people associate better with their likes.

Thanks for posting Butterfly. :D Now I can dump some good loads on Clinton and his wife.

Just off the top of my head, howabout Hillary drunk with power and illusions. She declared executive privilege when she attempted closed door sessions on the formulation of her national health care plan. She wasn't even a federal employee, yet they had to waste time and money sorting out whether the First Lady could evoke executive privilage. It was an attempt of an abuse of power she didn't have. It's indicative of the Clinton stlye; let the courts sort it out while we move on to the next outrageous scandal. The attention will be on past events. Eventually people will get tired and sigh, "another scandal?" and they will begin to blame the messenger for the bad news not the perpetrator.

Those on the right have the image of Reagan whether it's an illusion or not. The left has had to prop up and and put forth Clinton, an impeached president. He wipes his ass wherever he goes and people still supprt him because he is all the left has. It's that Clinton luck. Some call it charm. But really he is sort of a clod. David Brinkley on national television called him a "bore".

In 1996, Brinkley sparked a controversy when he uttered negative comments about President Bill Clinton. Brinkley called Clinton a "bore" and predicted -- in opinionated election night commentary -- four more years of "goddamned nonsense."

Brinkley: "Clinton is a bore, he'll always be a bore and he's never had

an original thought in his life."

“Hillary Rodham Clinton needs to be kept very far away from the White House

for the rest of her life. Heading up health-care reform was the only major

administrative job she has ever tried to do. And she was a complete flop at it.

That's all you have ? :o

BFD. She didn't have her plan, so what's the fuss ? it didn't fly and the system stopped her from carrying it forward. So what are you complaining about ?

As for original thought ? who has one ? do you think you do ? or Bush does ? Clinton is smart because he was able to gather and digest the thought of other people and act on them.

OTH you have Bush who speak to God in hyperboles. Who do you think is more fit to be president ? :D

Yes Clinton was quick to run from one side of the boat to the other. At one time his administration said there was a link between al qaeda and Iraq. His administration used the connection to justify the bombing of the aspirin factory in the Sudan. It just so happened Monica Lewinsky was set to testify at the time. Wag the dog. :o If you are saying Clinton was a great mimmick who obtained knowledge through observation of others and who posessed no insight I can agree. Monkey see monkey do.

Clinton, a man who governed by reacting to polls and who governed according to the people's emotions. It was a demonstration of his democratic principles.

Why Clinton Didn't Get Osama

Well, Osama is ugly enough for Clinton. :D:o

The Verdict is In: Clinton More Honest, Better Lover Than Bush

Never was the stupidity of the average American more blaringly obvious than when they SE-lected the drooling chimp over the highly intellectual John Kerry, a decorated war hero thrice wounded on the battlefields of Vietnam. Though the slim 51% to 48% margin could hardly be called a “victory” and by no means gave Bush a mandate, it was a stunning reminder of just how dumb the American sheeple really are.

Judging by a recent poll, however, the knuckle-dragging morons of the red states seemed to have magically sprouted brains. By an overwhelming majority, 52% of Americans now think George Bush is a lying bastard, while a paltry 48% remain hopelessly ignorant. Additionally, another whopping 52% believe former President Bill Clinton is more honest than the Shrub – and a better lover, to boot.

Not in a sexual way, though. No, Bill Clinton’s is a soft, snuggly kind of love, like a warm blanket on a cold winter’s day. It’s not phony or staged for political benefit like George Bush’s marriage. Bill Clinton’s undying love for humanity is a natural part of his essence. It oozes out of his pores. It gushes forth from his loins and drenches everyone in his path, causing tough, hard-to-remove stains and a deep yearning for Walt Whitman poetry. Yes, it’s a special love that only special people can appreciate, and Goddess willing, America will know such love again. :o
