Macro Lenses And Image Stabilization

Featured Replies

I like to take close-up and macro pictures and actually I use a Canon 100/2.8 (not so much) and a Sigma 150/2.8.

Now, during this year, both the companies have begun to sell the respective versions of their macro lenses in stabilized version.

I'm quite happy with the 2 glasses, mostly with the Sigma 150, but taking pictures mainly handheld, I was thinking a 2/3 stop stabilization should be useful.

Somebody has already any experience with those lenses? What do you think?

Maybe somebody is interested to buy my 2 macro lenses? :whistling:

You produce some excellent work with your existing lenses, do you really need to change?

Thank you, Astral.

But, slower shutter time, better D.O.F. The Canon 7D with its useless 18 mp start to be noisy after ISO 200, so push the ISO over 800/1600 give only images to be deeply post-produced.

But, on the other hand, I should sell one (or 2) good lens and put a 20.000 over to get a new lens...

I don't know <_<

My main 'on camera' lens is a Canon 15-85 IS and the IS does make a difference.

The 100mm Canon is reviewed here and does well:

Sigma claims 4 stops for the 150mm, which is impressive.

As they are newer designs than your existing lens, there should be other improvements as well.

Never thought I would say this, but it sounds like you need a new body instead of new lenses. Something less noisy.

High ISO performance has been getting a lot better the last years.
