speaking of bands, there's a great band plays on 2nd road soi 2 opposite the classroom gogo, i used to play myself and haven't heard better than this, Lam is entertaining and is no doubt a great player but typical Thailand style is choppy as opposed to smooth rythm, when they play it's almost like they are marching. Spoils it for me.

The fella that plays in the Climax bar can't be much older than that.

Lam taught him to play, he's another good un' :o

Absolutely. I met him three years ago and was 18 then. Very impressive skills for his age and the only one I've found in Thailand that will even attempt Steve Vai riffs.

Played very well at the Music Festival a few weeks ago in Pattaya.

I have never met a twenty year old who can play the guitar like him !

You have never met Johnny then !

Way down Louisiana close to New Orleans,

Way back up in the woods among the evergreens...

There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood,

Where lived a country boy name of Johnny B. Goode...

He never ever learned to read or write so well,

But he could play the guitar like ringing a bell.

I enjoy live music and visit many of the live venues in Pattaya including the Blues

Factory, I agree that the venue is great and the music is fantastic. The reality is that

the only people that have heard of Lam Morrison is us, talk to any one around Pattaya

and they dont know who he is. Lam Morrison maybe on google but who isn’t, just

add a picture of your self on a web site and save it as your name and in six months

you will be on the top search of google.

Just because you respect some one dosent mean other people do, people respect

different people for there own reasons. I think Lam is a fantastic musician and a nice

guy. I have great respect for him. People in Pattaya and musicians around the world

have never heard of him. He is a fantastic musician in a very small pond. If Lam

Morrison was a success he would never be playing music to drunken farangs in

whores ville. If he had respect from the music industry he would be a session

musician, or on tour, or recording and earning real money playing to a real audiences.

No discrespect intended, i love the bar the music and the scene, just my view

Again this has nothing to do with The Blues Factory but ask the thai's around thailand and ask the thais in other countries whether they have heard of Lam and alot of them will say yes.

In his day he was quite a big name, there are rumours and stories as to why he never went big (i won't reveal what i've been told) but look at the friends he has..Big stars. Thanks to Lam I and the club become close to some celebrity musicians (amongst the thais i mean because to be honest who cares whether the farangs have heard of them or not), some names are Olarn Project aswell as Kitti guitar gun and he is still very close to Carabao, Loso has been in more than once as has Assini Wasan, They don't come to see the blues band OR the club itself.

This is because Lam is a respected musician amongst some of the people in LOS.

If anyone here really knows him that well then they will know why he does'nt break his balls trying to record, tour etc etc.

The guy truly has a following from people all over the world.

I should know after all :D (i get all the ****ing correspondance :o )

Rocky - curious have you ever been to the Blues Factory? :D Drunken farangs? I'd assume by those back handed compliments you were referring to a bloody yank honky tonk roadhouse. :o I've never seen any silliness, its one of the more respectable venues in Pattaya and I'm not saying this because Dave's a mate either.

I'll parrot what Dave says - people around the world come to Pattaya to see LAM. If you know anything about real musicians they play because they love it and small venues are far preferable over these mass concert gigs. Lam's made his choices for a reason and he is successful in his own right. Ask thai(s) they know who he is.

People travel the word to see bands such as U2, Rolling Stones, maybe the

Stereophonics, but they do travel the world chasing after some Thai who copied his

I trust that you have picked a neat and tidy one with a sweep movement ( the Rolex I mean) :D

....and did you know that the Lam Morrison band was the first ever Thai band to play rock n roll for the troops in the Vietnam/American War? :D

Hmmm , the people that you have asked obviously know jack sh1t about Thai popular music.

I was in my local Thai restaurant in Wallingford ( Oxfordshire ) last night , due to the debate about Lam I though I'd ask a few of the Thai people working there about him. They all knew of Lam , one even ran upstairs to show me an old cassette of Lam's.

I'm sure if you asked Ritchie Blackmore , he would remember Lam as well.

Oh , you have never heard of Mr Blackmore as well ?

errr yes they do, people do make make an effort to see him and he earns well out of it and makes people feel good on their night/nights outs out.

If you went to see the stereophonics or stones or Rory Gallagher (who Lam only does 2 songs) would you have to pay for it?

This is crap as the guy is 61 years old and he LIVES and gets his energy off of his music and feeling and respect that people give him.

IF your not happy with him then DON'T bother coming in to watch him.

I have a photo taken 6 years ago with Lam... I have shown it to dozens, perhaps a couple hundred by now, of Thais. Not ONE has failed to recognize him WITHOUT me saying who it is.

I'm proud of it because he allowed to wear his guitar while he stood next to me. The comment I tell everyone, with a straight face and serious tone, is that it was taken when I taught Lam how to play guitar.

Not ONE has failed to disbelieve me. :o

Why the hel_l shouldn't Lam do what he wants. At 61 he's earned it.

He's living in his country, makes a decent living playing what he likes for people who like his music and he can live a decent laid-back life.

Maybe he lives in Pattaya because he likes it, there's more to Pty than booze and girls.
