Crime Actress Gets 2 Months Suspended Sentence for Drink-Driving
Picture courtesy of Amarin. Actress Marie Berenner, 33, has been sentenced to two months’ imprisonment and fined 4,000 baht for drink-driving. The sentence has been suspended for two years. Her driving licence has also been suspended for six months. Her male companion received a one-month sentence suspended for one year and a 10,000-baht fine. The case follows an incident at a police checkpoint in Wang Thonglang District, where Berenner refused to undergo a breathalyser test while driving her luxury car. Her male companion reportedly obstructed police officers during the stop, with video footage later emerging of the incident. Both were summoned to Wang Thonglang Police Station and subsequently charged at the Phra Nakhon Nuea District Court. According to court proceedings, both Berenner and her companion pleaded guilty. The court found Berenner guilty of resisting a lawful order and drink-driving. She was fined 1,000 baht for resisting police orders and sentenced to two months’ imprisonment for drink-driving, with the sentence suspended for two years. She must report to authorities three times, complete 12 hours of community service and serve one year of probation. Her male companion was convicted of insulting and obstructing officers in the performance of their duties. He was sentenced to one month in prison, with the term suspended for one year and fined 10,000 baht. The incident drew media attention outside the court, where Berenner and her companion left the courthouse quickly. The court’s decision marks the conclusion of legal proceedings in this case. Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) chief Mikael Granholm called this agreement “a significant development for Swedish warplane progress.” This transaction includes three advanced Gripen E jets and a single Gripen F, with accompanying support, training, and equipment. The hefty contract, valued at approximately 18 billion baht, signifies a commitment to enhanced defence cooperation between Thailand and Sweden, reported the Bangkok Post. Saab has confirmed that deliveries will roll out over a five-year span from 2025 to 2030. Community Indonesian Man Self-Harms on Bangkok Pedestrian Bridge

Police in Khlong Luang, Pathum Thani, were forced to stage an intervention, after a foreign national armed with scissors repeatedly injured himself on a pedestrian overpass, bringing traffic on Phahonyothin Road to a standstill for several hours. Officers from Khlong Luang Police Station, led by Pol Col Athimes Chaiyasarnwichit, rushed to the scene outside a company near Bangkok University at kilometre marker 37+300 after reports of a man in a state of distress. Witnesses described him as a 35- to 40-year-old Indonesianwho was seen slashing at his chest and left wrist while pacing back and forth on the footbridge. Despite attempts at negotiation, the man became increasingly paranoid and edged outside the protective railing, raising fears he would leap into oncoming traffic. Police shut down the fast lane in both directions, causing tailbacks stretching over 10 kilometres. One passer-by, 23-year-old delivery rider Mr Wayo, said: “I saw him on the bridge cutting himself and immediately phoned the police. It was shocking.” Officers coordinated with a lorry driver to position a tarpaulin-covered truck beneath the bridge to cushion any potential fall. Moments later, as rescue workers distracted the man by offering him water, police officers and volunteers seized the opportunity to charge and restrain him, disarming him of a pair of scissors. First responders from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation administered first aid at the scene. The man had serious lacerations on his wristand bruising to his chest, before being rushed to Thammasat University Hospital. According to volunteer rescuer Ms Sophit Klaksakijit, the man admitted he was overwhelmed by personal problems and simply wanted to return home. Police officer Sirichai Phaobleklak described the decisive moment: “He was about to climb out again when he looked away. That’s when we charged and pulled him back to safety.
