Its a dilemma cos if you pay the correct fare you are seen as "farang kee-neow" but if you pay what they ask, you continue the trend.

Annoying thing is that tourists often tip them huge tips and wai them.(cringe)

Perhaps there should be a 'Dual-Crackdown' on Thai who expect farang to pay more and for farang who do so willingly? :o

Sounds like a dual crackdown would be in order. FOR SURE.

If you catch a taxi just twice a day you're paying an extra 10bht, in 1 year that works out to over $100. When im in pattyaya i use the taxis up to 10 times a day.

If you have you ladyfriend with you, double the figure.

Nuff said.

Tried to tip the Pilot of Thai Airways TG 916 on last flight a couple of hundred quid for flying us safely from London to LOS but K.wife reconed I was going a bit Ting Tong :o

I quietly explained that all/most toorists were sooo happy to be in the country and that 100% tipping was considered not only normal but mandatory...after all Thailand pilots/5 bt bus drivers are all so poor...innit...sooo

guess what she said :D

since I've been out of pattaya for 6 months and arrived recently - is it my imagination or are there twice as many baht taxis, it just seems there are far too many to support the potential customer base, they are everywhere, sitting around doing nothing or moving with 1 or 2 passengers at most, seems they have flooded the market, doesn't the local council regulate licences etc. All they seem to do is cause congestion.

comments?

More the merrier, it keeps the prices low.

The same way the over building of hotels keeps their prices low.
