TAWP
GANGLAND MURDER: ‘Pattaya Post’ editor found shot in headPublished on November 03, 2005 Santi’s reports on hotels providing sex services led to transfers of senior police. Chon Buri police are investigating the gangland-style murder of a journalist and local newspaper owner found shot dead in his BMW yesterday morning in Pattaya. Santi Lammaneenil, 38, was shot three times – in the forehead, under the chin and in the right temple. His hands were tied with a power cord from a mobile-phone battery charger. He had been dead about 10 hours before his body was found at 7am in Bang Lamung district, according to the initial autopsy report. Lt-General Jongrak Juthanond, commander of Provincial Police Region 2, said someone might have wanted Santi killed because of his gambling debts, extramarital affair or his exposure of night entertainment venues in the beach resort town that operated beyond legal hours. Up to three men might have abducted Santi, or tricked him into meeting them at the crime scene, Jongrak said. The editor of the Pattaya Post newspaper for more than 10 years, Santi also freelanced for TV Channel 7, and Khao Sod and Khom Chad Luek newspapers. He was deputy chairman of the local press association and set to become its chairman. A local veteran reporter, who identified himself as Dej, said Santi’s coverage over the past few months of certain hotels in Pattaya providing prostitutes had led to the immediate transfers of five senior police. Santi’s car was parked with the engine still running when it was found near brush on Naklua Soi 16. The car’s interior had been ransacked and the rear windscreen had a bullet hole. His pistol was found in the car with two bullets fired. Police quoted his widow, Sumalee Seedaeng, as saying Santi told her about specific information stored on his personal computer before he went missing on Monday. Police have not found any information leading to a possible motive. Sumalee said a man with a large build had twice come to look for Santi at her house – the first time on the day Santi went missing and the second time the day after. Santi had frequently stayed overnight with his relatives over the past few months. Recently he asked her: “How could our family go on if I’m abducted and killed?” http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2005/11/03...l_19052085.html

mijan24
Maybe it was suicide. Santi’s car was parked with the engine still running when it was found near brush on Naklua Soi 16. Santi Lammaneenil, 38, was shot three times – in the forehead, under the chin and in the right temple. #One may have been a ricochet His hands were tied with a power cord from a mobile-phone battery charger. #Maybe an attempt to confuse the investigators.!! He had been dead about 10 hours before his body was found at 7am in Bang Lamung district, according to the initial autopsy report. Wonder if they confirmed this point by checking the fuel guage?? Jai Dee
POLICE SUSPECTED THE MURDER OF A JOURNALIST IN PATTAYA RESULTED FROM GAMBLING OR VICTIM'S PROFESSION Police suspected that the murder of a journalist in Pattaya was a result of gambling and the victim's work as press. Royal Thai Police Spokesperson ACHIRAWIT SUPHANNAPHAYSAT (อชิรวิทย์ สุพรรณเภสัช) spoke on the death of Mr. SANTI LAMMANEENIN (สันติ ลำมณีนิล), the owner of Pattaya Post Newspaper who was shot on the forehead and the neck. His body was found blindfolded with the hands tied via a wire from a mobile phone adapter, in the back of a BMW parked in a forest in Chonburi province. Initially, police suspected two causes of murder, including gambling and problems arising from the victim's work as a journalist. However, other issues have not yet been ruled out, and the Region 2 Provincial Police Commissioner has ordered rapid investigation. Pol. Lt. Gen. ACHIRAWIT also disclosed that police have been earlier informed from the victim that he was being targeted. However, the victim did not request protection. Jai Dee
Local journalist abducted and murdered in Naklua. Police Major Sanai from Pattaya Police Station was called to Soi 16/1 off the Naklua Road to investigate the suspected murder of a local Journalist, Khun Santi aged 38 who works as a journalist for the Pattaya Post Newspaper and is a local representative for the Thai national TV station Channel 7. At the scene senior local, provincial and regional Police Officers had been sent to the scene, led by Police Lieutenant General Jongrak, the Commander of Region 2 Police. The body of the man was discovered in the back seat of his car, a silver colored BMW, his hands were tied together using cable from a mobile phone charger and a piece of material, and his face was partially covered. It appears from initial reports that he was shot twice in the head using his own gun. Forensic teams inspected the car, body and surrounding area and dusted the car for prints. Khun Santi had been missing since Monday night at 9pm. The body was discovered at 7am on Wednesday morning at this location. The exact motive for the attack is unknown but the journalist was known to be involved in a gambling ring here in Pattaya, he was also an outspoken journalist and would often criticize local discotheques, pubs and the local Police and he was also known to spend time with many different women. An intensive investigation is now underway and we expect updates on the story in the coming days.
