Another fav music thread? Can't ever be too many of them . . . there's too much great music out there. Rock the Bedlam!!

(Disclaimer: I cannot nor will not confine myself to a mere four decades. Ya know, there's a lot of us old f*cks out there.)

Here's a few from Depeche Mode's 1990 Violator.

A few from southern California's punk rock band founded by Mike Ness in '78. These are from their self-titled LP released in 1990.

Since I brought up Johnny, here's a few more.

And a very young Johnny. 23 years old performing on the Tex Ritter show.

Nice to see you back Tippy, you were missed :)

Thanks, SBK. That was sweet. I've been suffering under a crushing workload for seemingly years. I'm in manufacturing, with all my clients U.S.-based, and this has been my busiest year ever. And the U.S. is economically depressed. Go figure. I get a teensie weensie bit of time here and there to post and then I've got my customers once again holding a gun to my head until they have their job in hand. Eat, sleep and work. I do shower and change clothes occasionally, though. Tippy's a very dull boy. :( I miss all my friends here, too. :jap:

Cheers,

Tip

Hi Tip, long time no see (but I've read the explanation, so no sweat)

A Chicago home-grown product founded in '88, the Smashing Pumpkins. Too much to choose from these guys. This one is from the '95 "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" disc. Love the album title.

And another from the "Siamese Dream" album released in '93. Hey, is this Thai related? Hmmmmm . . .

Hi Tip, long time no see (but I've read the explanation, so no sweat)

Hey, Thaddy, great to hear from you. I'm forcing myself to take a bit of a respite here. There's soooo much good music to share that I can't stop myself from posting. Growing up we'd never watch TV . . . just listen to music, converse and, well, indulge in other ways, if you know what I mean. Some things never change for me.

Cheers,

Tip

BTW, did I fail to mention that all of this music is best listened to as loud as you can possibly manage? How poor of me! Of course, take into consideration the risk of potentially violent neighbors and/or cops descending on you so do try to find a happy medium.

And an anecdote to share for the above which I may have related before . . . or not. Back in the days that seemed like yesterday a few in our crowd had rented a house in the boondocks of Chicago's south side. Houses were well spaced by a good 30+ meters from one another. The guys living there had four of the largest JBL speakers available at the time, one in each corner of the room, and the components to drive them. The sliding glass door leading to the yard in back was draped with seven heavy blankets. That was the set up.

About four of us laid sprawled out in the center of the carpeted living room floor listening to Elton John's "Madman Across The Water" LP. I no longer have any recollection of whether or not the system was at full tilt on the volume but I do have vivid recall of the reverb literally pulsing throughout my entire body. That was the closest I ever felt to actually being the music. Hard to describe but an awesome experience that I'll always cherish.

And yes, we did have our nearest not-so-near neighbors come over and bang on the doors. Ah, well . . . :)

As I said, too much to choose from the Smashing Pumpkins. Again, from the "Siamese Dreams" disc.

And this off their '91 release, "Gish."

A few more odds and ends then I'll stop . . . promise!! :whistling:

Copy/paste . . . The song was recorded in 1969 by pianist Les McCann and saxophonist Eddie Harris for their album, Swiss Movement, recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

What a classic with great lyrics.

The live version off J. Geils' '72 Full House LP. I like the studio version better but, alas, it's not available on YouTube.

mrbogangles turned me on to this on another music thread many moons ago, and I'm grateful. It's worth a replay.

And one more . . . something I picked up off a Google Earth YouTube vid in Kathmandu. If anyone recognizes the artist please let me know.

I'll pass the baton now . . . :D

I don't see that Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters gots anything to do wid de past 4 decades...sheeeed, youse wantin' to put them in with DISCO and PUNK in de foist decade alone...shame on you

although it is appropriate to see them represented as 'where it all came from'...but crime not to include the immortal Jimmy Reed...
