ajarnbill Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 I got back from Vientiane this week after applying for a new visa. My last visa was a non-immigrant b issued on the basis of my having a contract as a teaching assistant at the university I attend here. My work contract has expired but I am still a full-time student. The university gave me a single typed sheet of paper telling them that I am a student at this university. I was not sure whether I would be eligible to work with the ED visa that I was seeking. I expect to be getting a new contract to help teach part-time at a local primary school. I have worked there before. Due to a mess in the local government here my contract has been delayed. To make a long story short, I was issued a non-immigrant b rather than the ED. Have I caught a break or should I expect a problem later?
Indo-Siam Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 You may routinely obtain a work permit on the basis of an entry permit issued against an ED visa. An ED entry permit is a routine qualifying non-immigrant entry permit for work permit purposes. Good luck! Steve Sykes Managing Director Indo-Siam Group Bangkok [email protected] www.thaistartup.com
lopburi3 Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 As I understand post he has a B visa rather than ED and no job in the immediate future. So expect the question will be if he continues among the unemployed can he extend the B on the basis of his study?
dr_Pat_Pong Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 He needs Immigration to amend the category from B to ED. Should be a simple process if he finds a decent officer.

ajarnbill Posted November 5, 2005 Author Posted November 5, 2005 Thanks for the replies. I do have the possibility of working again for a teseban school here. That would give me the contract needed to get the work permit and to extend my visa. The alternative is to take a trip to Phibun and straighten this out with immigration there. How long can I possibly wait before going to Phibun? The ironic thing is there were teachers there in Vientiane with piles of documents being denied a non b visa and I got one with one single sheet of paper which asked for an ED visa.
