Looking For Musician(S)

I'm a drummer living in central Chiang Mai with a small home studio setup. I'm looking for interested musicians to hang out, play some music, drink some beers and have a good time.

Covers, new original music, simply jamming - as long as we're having a good time. While I personally tend to gravitate towards heavier rock, progressive rock and metal genres, blues and lighter pop-rock is also fine.

If I may ask, how is it working out having a home studio there?

I'm moving my studio setup over as well, but I'm concerned about noise (mine and others), and security.

Can I play a piano all day? Guitars? Can I mix at low-moderate levels without people getting upset?

Are apartments/condos riddled with noise? (I read a lot of people complaining about that.)

If you have a couple of nice rack units, should you be concerned that someone will try to take them?

These are things I worry about.

Btw, it could be cool to hook up.

Don't worry, Thailand is the hub of noisemaking. biggrin.png

It really depends on your neighbors. Getting along well with them is crucial imho; obviously if you're living in a townhouse and the guy next door works through the nights online and tries to sleep in the afternoon while you jam, he's not going to be too happy about it. Forget about it in apartments - even electronic drums with headphones is almost a no-go in apartment buildings.

Detached house with decent walls/windows helps a lot and depending on the noise levels you might want to invest into some additional sound isolation. Alternatively, if you use lots of electronic gear (e-drums, digital pianos/synths), a fully headphone-based setup might be an option.

Security wise, again I'd consider neighbors first - if someone's going to break into your place while you're away, if you got along with your neighbors well they might investigate or at least call you / cops. Or you could go with motion sensors and retina scanners and hope the intruders don't have enough cash on-hand to pay off your security guys :)

Yeah, but you can't do proper mixing in headphones.

And noise eliminates the possibility of clean recording.

After talking with some others, I'm wondering about moobahn.

Mate, if you're serious about your mixing and are talking about using studio monitors etc then grabbing a place in a moobahn is the way to go. You can mix away in peace (and volume).

Yeah, I think you're right. It seems a moobahn will take care of most of my security and basic noise concerns. Now I just have to look into transportation. I'll need to go into town rather often for classes - Thai, Japanese, and piano at the very least.

I'll be there soon to take a look first hand.

By the way, I very much need a drummer. For recording, it's drummers and vocalists that I always need. I have two songs right now that are "templated" with drum machines/samples. I very much want to get some real drums on there.

Of course, recording a drum set is out of my league. I don't have enough equipment to do that properly, nor can I afford putting together that kind of setup. However, I have a feeling studios in town are decently priced and would be worth just going in to track drums. Get in, get out. Mix at home.

One song is a mix of blues and metal, with some tribal-like percussion riding just behind it.

The other song is more modern rock, with the drums mostly holding a drum n' bass style of playing throughout. (Except for the bridge, the bridge is hip-hop in feel.)

If you're interested, I'll send you the scratch mixes. Just pop me a pm.
