ok, ordered a Toyota Fortuner back in August, was actually scheduled to be released this end of October, now the Toyota dealer tells me that the factory is/was (?) flooded and that delivery may be delayed. That would be bad already worse would be if... I really really DO NOT want to have a new car which was flooded before.

Anyone has any info how bad the situation in the Toyota Factory really is? Would appreciate any help.

Thanks

None of the Toyota factories have been flooded.

Some Honda operations/suppliers in Ayutthaya have been though.

ohhh thanks, big relief, so probably an excuse. That will help me a lot.

Not if somebody else is getting your order. Why did they tell you a porky pie?.

seems to be an excuse everyone is using lately..

"I cannot come because of the floods"

"It won't be here because of the floods"

"Your phone is not working because of the floods."

Plenty of business websites reporting Toyota has halted production at all of its Thailand plants since Monday due to supply problems caused by the flooding, Ford having similar problems.

Holy sh... that looks awful. Wonder what they do with the flooded cars, it is not great to get a car that was flooded and has all this muddy water inside the whole engine and interior.

So I guess that even if Toyota plant has not been flooded, then the suppliers might have been affected, which could cause a delay. Of course I also thought about the possibility that he may give my car do someone else and I have to wait a bit longer. That would be really bad... But I guess and hope it is the flooding which causes the delay but not the plant itself. I have also checked the flood maps and I can not see any signs close to the Toyota plants.

So will see if I can check on Google Earth and see how it looks there.

Which Toyota plant manufactures the Fortuner?

The dealer will NOT deliver a car thats damaged in any way, not even with a scratch mark let alone water damage. Make sure you go over your car from bonnet to boot making sure its 100% as new or don't take deli vary until any minor probs have been sorted

They have insurance against flood and hail

3.000 cars stored at Don Muang until flooded roads can be used again

usually flood damaged new cars are dumped in a market they dont operate in, for Honda that might be in an african country, all badges removed

or cut in two and banned VIN, and given to schools for educational purpose

Yep, must be a tad damp on the assembly line and in the canteen.

Lets hope this water drains away quickly and get back to normal. A lot of jobs at stake.

thanks, so I started google for Toyota Thailand Gateway and came up with this result:

Thailand

So it seems to be the Samrong plant. But anyway thanks for the answer. The most important fact is that the Toyota plants are only indrectly affected by the flood which gives me some hope to get my car still this year :whistling:

oh man, went to the dealer today and the message was I would have to wait until next year, not even sure when next year that would in the best case make a 3 month of delivery delay. I hoped for something different...

This is Honda.

If they get sold thru the auctions here in LOS there could be some good buys. Everything not metal or rubber or plastic will need to be pulled off and cleaned/dried....or replaced. Maybe a new ECU and intstrument cluster too.

Went thru a major flood in 1979 in Canada. Had a 1967 Ford Galaxy 500.

During high water, the keel from a passing canoe left a scratch on the roof.

When water receded drained all oils and replaced, removed interior and dried, dismantled dash and drained all water.

Sprayed contact cleaner in all electrical connections, plugs, sockets, etc.

Car fired right up - took it for a short run and changed all fluids again.

Except for some small corrosion issues down the road, car ran fine.

Funky smell from interior was resolved with re-upholster of seats as the foam would not dry completely.

Toyota, Nissan extend Thai flood production haltsJapan's biggest automaker Toyota said in a statement that its three sites in Thailand, which have been suspended since October 10, would remain closed until at least November 12.

Toyota said the Thai floods will mean continued production adjustments at plants in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam as well as Pakistan and Malaysia from November 7.<br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(250, 251, 252); ">"A decision on production from November 14 onward will be made based on an assessment of the situation as it develops," Toyota said.

Is ford / mazda production any way affected? Do they source parts from Ayuthaya or other flood affected areas? It would seem they should strike while the iron is hot and start pushing out or bringing forward their new products (ranger 3.2 springs to mind), or even mazda's cx-5. They could possibly cannibalise sales of honda / toyota / nissan, where their delivery times could be extend to more than a year now.

It appears so, but details as to how much a still very sketchy. Ford Australia have been quoted in the press blaming lower than expected sales on Thai supply problems, caused by the floods.
