Royal flora fair rescheduled to December

CHIANG MAI, 22 October 2011 (NNT) – The organizing committee of the International Horticultural Exposition Royal Flora Ratchaphruek 2011 has decided to postpone the fair by another month due to the ongoing flood crisis.

The event, previously due to begin on November 9, has been rescheduled to December 16.

According to Agriculture Department Director-General Jirakorn Kosaisewee, the fair had to be delayed as the flood situation remains worrying. Several transport routes have been heavily damaged by floods, spoiling the public mood for traveling.

The rescheduled flora fair will take place between December 16, 2011 and March 14, 2012. Thirty-one countries have agreed to participate in the event.

Chaos pending regarding pre sold tickets for dates prior to 16 Dec etc and travel plans already made to catch the opening.

The last time that they did this it was very difficult for foreigners to get hotel reservations during the height of high season and cut down on tourist spending considerably. Doing it again during cool season is not good news for businesses that depend on foreign tourists as well as expats.

All the water and rain must have upset everything.

We were hoping to see this on our upcoming trip.:bah:

To the best of my knowledge some 20,000+ people a day were visiting Royal Flora many of whom were western and asian tourists.

If hotels were fully booked and that amount of visitors were going to RF I would say that was good news for CH.Similar figures would be equally beneficial?

As for holding it in the cool season-would you want to walk around that huge area in April -May?

If the organisers were smart it would be held a week or so after the Singapore Garden show so all the Garden tour companies could do two shows on one tour with a hop step and a jump from Singapore . The Singapore one is usually held every two years at the end of July. If you are coming from Europe or The states or Oz then it is one trip to see two events.

Hotels were pretty much always fully booked at that time of year back then and foreigners were spending a lot more money. The hotels were b*tching because the locals paid for a room, but did not use the other services like laundry and restaurants that make a hotel profitable. Of course with the world economy the way that it is these days, maybe they won't be complaining as much.
