Trip To Fang

Featured Replies

May be taking a trip to Fang for a wedding on the 14th. Any suggestions on the route and where to stay. I assume taking the southern? route is the quicker and better road but contemplating returning via Tha Ton just for the variety. I assume I will stay the night but not dead certain yet. Welcome all suggestions

Not sure about Fang but in Tha ton there are several pleasant little bungalows along the river. I stayed in Garden Home which has a good selection in pretty garden setting with rabbits and ducks etc roaming about. There are several others along the same part of the river that also looked fine. Not much to do in Tha ton other than climb to the top of the temple....few restaurants and the boats of course leaving for CR. But a nice place to relax for a day or two.

Taking the southern route - I assume you mean from Mae Suai? If so, that route is a long and winding road. Not much to see. Road not too well maintained because of low traffic. You end up near an oil refinery. I suggest you go by Mae Chan - Tha ton. Sleep along Kok River at Tha Ton. Many places there. This month should be really nice weather for that kind of activity.

I'd go the high road and come back the low road... or north and south if you prefer.

Both routes are interesting and if you are in no great hurry why not?

ThaTon is indeed a lovely place.

I travel to Fang every month and take the northern mountain route through Tha Ton. Travel to Mae Chan on route #1 (Superhighway), after passing Mae Chan hospital you will see overhead sign showing the way to Fang. A nice hotel to stay at is the, "PHUMANEE PLACE." The hotel has breakfast in the morning and is walking distance to center of town. The hotel is sponsered by the local hill tribe foundation and is clean and well decorated. The staff is very friendly and this hotel is a great place to camp out at while you are visiting friends or just touring around Fang. Before you get into center of Fang you will encounter a traffic light and see a small bridge directly in front of you. The road will bend to the left going to center of town, you need to stay straight across bridge and about 100 meters or so is the hotel on the left. http://www.ichiangmaihotel.com/hotels-chiangmai/phumanee/index.htm
