Change Visa Type

Featured Replies

Sorry if this is a repeat question.

I am currently on a non-immigrant B type Visa and had a work permit based on this Visa for last 2 Yrs.

Now I am married to a Thai under Thai law.

I am thinking to change my Visa type to Non-immigrant B to Non-Immigrant- O Marriage type [correct me if I am wrong].

I have to renew my Work Permit in coming February and thinking of doing this Visa type change at that time. [at One Stop Office for BOI/Work Permit]

My questions are;

1. Do I have to leave Thailand and come back again to do this change to my VISA type?

2. Do I have to show them minimum Deposit that is needed for Non-Immigrant O type Visa, even though I am having a Job and a Work Permit?

Any other issues that I can face with?

Why I thought to do this is mainly due to the changes that are going to take in place in June 2004 and to get benefited from any exemptions that they might grant for foreigners who are already living in Thailand under the Marriage Visa category.

[if no exemptions granted, anyway I am not going to loose anything]

Further, I think having a non-immigrant-O might be more useful for me when applying for PR in the future.

Thank you

kwiz

To change to an O based on marriage you'll need to show them bankings / income it'll be worthwhile popping in to see the one stop centre and ask for their guidance. I doubt that there'll be a problem for you.

Immigration in soi Suanplu in BKK has an office called "Change Visa" (303 on third floor ).A kind officer (Khun Pallop) will give you all the infos needed.(he even did it by phone when I was in front of him).But sorry,I don't have his phone n°
