I have just recieved my first non immigrant B visa and i dont fully understand its purpose. Whats the difference between B & O visas? It says above the visa 'the applicant is advised to apply for work permit which should be presented to the authorities next time'. Is it necesary to get a WP eventhough i do not intend to work. Thanks.......

"B" is for Business and "O" is for other.

Most people that obtain the “B" visa was by having a Thai company looking to employ them, Trading partner looking to do business with them or they are applying for an investment visa.

Most “O” are people married or looking to obtain a retirement visa.

Am i obliged to apply for a WP and if so is it a mission/expensive? I am from the UK & 50 next April 24, is it worth applying for a Retirement visa or would that complicate matters? I have a Thai limited co & have invested in land, probarbly will build at some point. Again do i need a WP? Many thanks Sunbelt.......

Not unless you are working. If you are, it is 6,500 Baht professional fees from our company.

You'll need to change the "B" to an "O" to apply for the extension of stay based on retirement. You will not have to leave Thailand to do this.

The Thai law states if you are a director and reside in Thailand, you must have a work permit. No one seems to mind as of now and their are thousands of these type of companies. In the future, they may start looking at this, but now it is not a concern of the government officials.
