Type Out A Response To Feel Better And Then Erase It?

Featured Replies

I do it on Thaivisa regularly enough, keeps me from getting myself into trouble, but I just got an email I had to do that with, some grumpy entitled farang dude complaining away about something petty that I have nothing to do with. Hey, maybe he's a Thaivisa member? Anyway, I typed out a fairly civil if curt response and then realized I was peeved and annoyed and rather grumpy so didn't send. I may have a look later when I don't feel so irritated by this fool and see if its as civil as I thought it was.

Usually they aren't :P

..........................................................(tried it, not bad)

I do that too. Unfortunately a large percentage of the more tempered posts get removed anyhow.

As for an email, I've written nasty ones, thought better of it and accidentally hit SEND when I meant to hit DELETE. Oh well, life goes on.

Years ago, when email was more of a fad than an everyday communication's tool, after a really trying "moment" with a "friend", I wrote out an extremely scathing and abusive email, only to find that on completion of the email most of the stress had left my system anyway, so didn't "send" it.

A few months past, hadn't used the account for anything, opened it one day and sent an email to someone else. Little did I know that the "scathing" email to my friend hasd been saved to a draft folser, and was sent out in the same batch.. Dohhhh!!!

and another..... heheehheh

A friend sent his wedding invitations out by email, another friend sent back the confirmation with a photo of the groom pissed with his cock hanging out in a nightclub. When he sent the email, he hit "reply all" and it went to 500 people including all the relatives of the groom and bride to be. <deleted> that was funny. :cheesy:

Think once, then write; think twice, then delete... How many times have I written that?

Quite often on this forum I type a response and then I think "Can I really face getting embroiled in this discussion?"

Or "That's just going to engender further stupid responses from people who have already exceeded their idiocy quota for the day"

and I cancel the post.

Yep, heaven knows what my post count would be if I posted everything I type up.

For emails, the phrase "respond, don't react" is a key one to remember. Definitely much better to mull things over, cool off, sleep on it or whatever before sending a scathing email. For TV posts, which are by and large less important in the wider scheme of things, people can be a bit more gung-ho. Which probably explains some of the direction threads take on here!

I usually let it fly... it takes a fair bit to upset me so I don't like to waste a good rant when the opportunity comes up.

If I didn't reflect on my posts before posting I'd be a multiply banned member. As it is...

sums it up nicely I think. biggrin.gif

I suppose it's about what the comment is, if it's just plain silly or insensitive, which seems to be the norm these days, then sure, make a response and bin it, but if it's rude and personal... pow... right in the kisser. :annoyed:

Listen mush, I may be silly and insensitive...........but my name's not Normmad.gif

It's amazing - the Bedlam crew all seem to be reasonable, level-headed people (*most of the time), yet when one goes to General or one of the local forums, the amount of bile can be extraordinary. I suppose we've all had occasions where some thickhead has responded to our perfectly reasonable post with a caustic flame. These are the occasions where the delete and edit buttons can be particularly handy.

Yep, the amount of times I have had the urge to type 'you're an idiot' or 'give it a rest <deleted>' I have, quite frankly, lost count of.

The quality of news reporting isn't dumbed down intentionally any longer, it has reached equilibrium with the readers.

+1

I think to myself " This poster will never in all eternity concede that maybe my point has even the slightest hint of validity or reason so I'm wasting my time"

Maybe... it's like yelling at the kids...

It doesn't do any good but it can make YOU feel better. B)

Well, sometimes I can't help myself. I really dislike it when people tell me what I should think. (note to members, how to annoy sbk, tell her what she is thinking or what she should think. hearkens back to bossy older siblings and is behavior I generally can't and won't abide.)

So, every once in a while, when someone does this, I feel the need to point out their patronizing poor behavior. I generally try to be polite-ish about it, tho. So maybe that counts. :D

Never did send that email to the <deleted> tho.

Imagine how much longer this thread would have been, otherwise.

Just had to restrain myself from quoting the guy who said, "opinions are like <deleted>, everyone has one". Some people just make themselves too tempting, don't they?

Anyway, I believe that if its something you wouldn't say to someone's face then its probably best not to post it either. I try to live up to that idea.

A good thoughtful response would be "but they don't all have a head stuck in them"

Type out a response and then delete it?

I'm lucky - I have the mods to do that for me...
