Where To Get Usd, Without Exchange Rate Loses?

I'm in Bangkok, and I need ~$500 US dollars for trips to Burma and Cambodia.

I really don't want to get Thai baht from an ATM (on my US credit card) and then exchange that back into USD again.

I've heard of ATMs in Thailand that disperse US dollars . . . anyone know where I can find one?

As its 500 dollars I would go inside the branch, ask them to do a manual transaction not ATM and you want dollars and there shouldnt be any fees.

Just take your passport with you.

Suggest Big Bangkok Branch dont try it at small sub branch as they will just stare at you like you are from another planet. I would recommend Bangkok branch on sukumvit near soi 8

1. all ATM will disbursed Thai Baht only

2. you will get better rate with legal money changers

3. most borders with thailand accepts thai baht, e.g. Mae Sai, Nong Khai.

the short answer is, you can't avoid the charges.

Even if you go into the bank with your credit card and passport and receive US$500 in notes, the bank will debit your card for the requisite amount in Baht first, then add their commission to change into US dollars and your credit card company will charge you 1.5% for a cash advance.

All these businesses are there to make money. Charities, they ain't.

You will have difficulty in getting a good rate for baht in Yangon, so take dollars as you plan. If you go to a Thai bank you can ask for 'new notes'. Any marks or excessive wear and tear and the USD notes will be worthless in Myanmar.

Siam commercial exchange kitty corner from Siam Paragon/MBK It is on the side of the art museum heading towards the bridge. These guys are great they even beat Superrich on rates. I was lucky because of the amount of exchange I have done there that they gave me baht to dollar across the posted rate since I have done so many transactions there.

Also Cambodian ATM's give out US dollars.

UTTER nonsense. THis simply does not exist. lacks the minimal knowledge of how banks work. Or the tipical USAer-cannot conceive that any country would not work with US$ as prime currency.

To OP; what you ask canNOT be done-you always loose -a little- in the process, that is, if yoy are also a USAer and start with a bankaccount in US$. The only relevant Question is how to minimse that.

There ARE -1 or 2 (maybe were) ATM s IN the closed off section of airport that DO dispence cash US$-quality unsure (Myanmar=BUrma=Phima etc.) and ONLY for those holding THAI bank accounts with the bank concerend (which sorry I have forgooten). maybe you confuse with KHermland=Cambodia, where indeed ATMs give you the choice of riel or US$-which will come at a mich higher premium/fee as when done in Thaild with some legwork.

Try your friendly neighborhood international drug lord. I'm sure he would change $500 without any fees.

If you still want a USD ATM machine, try the airport. I think there are still fees charged.

What kind of question is this? As always, the 'fee' is in the exchange rate.
