For three week I am trying now to get my phone number transferred from TrueMove to AIS. The trouble started already when AIS was not accepting the authentication with a Thai drivers license (new card style), which was for TrueMove always Ok for me as a post paid customer.

Now I had to send my passport copy to TrueMove with a request to change my authentication record to passport with the details from the passport (of course same name as on Thai DL).

It looks like that the Clearing House Co., which handles the transfers on behalf of the 5 telcos in Thailand is a blackbox. The transfers are failing because name details are not matching. Nobody on both sides seems to be able to tell me what exactly is not matching. I was even asked by AIS if my Name is written in Capital letters in the passport (instead of big and small caps) because that might be a reason for the system to reject the request. I cannot see how this is affecting myname?!?

Several people at both ends have been involved and the TrueMove people did send emails to the AIS people. No result. Just this evening I had an SMS from True that a transfer had failed and another SMS from AIS that I should contact their service appartment.

Normally I would say that TrueMove is the bad guy in this game as they would have little interest in letting me move to another operator. But I wonder about that clearing house.

Does anybody know an instance, where I can investigate or file a complaint. The Thai Telecom Regulation Board looks like a little bit too high to me. After all I would only need access to the information that is store in the system of TrueMove. With these details I could go to AIS then. All so logical in theory. TrueMove in Siam Center is off no help as they are just forwarding things to different "teams". The best option would be an ombudsman but I guess that this is the last thing what I can expect in Thailand.

Any ideas someone?

I would go to one of the larger AIS service centers, say in Central World or Siam Paragon where it may be easier to find an English-speaking CSR, and explain your situation. You might then re-register your AIS SIM using your passport and name, and ask AIS for some supporting documentation there in person. I had to wait ~ 5 business days before requesting the transfer FROM AIS TO DTAC. It went through without any issues.

On the other end, I would ask to speak to a supervisor at True, maybe in the large shop in the Digital Gateway Mall (Siam Square BTS), and ask then to investigate and contact you. I've found them to be very helpful, especially as you want to become their customer.

Do you have a monthly post-paid contract TrueMove? If so, maybe best to cancel that, pay the last bill, change to Truemove PRE-PAID, re-register, wait a few weeks, then port to AIS.

I want to transfer away from TrueMove to AIS.The problem is that the transfer system is always rejecting the transfer because of non matching Name details. But nobody at AIS and True can tell me why. AIS keeps asking me if my name is written in Capital letters only, which is a joke if a computer transfer would fail because of that.

I have a post paid contract. Why do you think it is better to switch to pre-paid first? Maybe to show them that they will loose money. Or is it easier to transfer a pre-paid number?
