THAIPHUKET Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 Much appreciated, Craig. Here my follow up post
montereyjp Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 I love to bike! Usually 30 to 50KM per day, used to ride in Bkk near Chutuchak, would head up to North Park do the loop or loop around at IT Square but it really sucked for the most part... So much so I moved to Nongprue in Banglamung which is what the call the darkside in Pattaya. This is where Siam Country club is and the Thai Polo Club plus lake Machrahbahn (SP?) and a few resorts and another big lake as you head towards Sattahip. There are lots and lots of great streets with little or no traffic, also plenty of double track dirt roads for some decent mountain bike riding, you can even ride through the polo grounds. Lots of bike riders out here, mostly Thais with the occasional farangs like me... I love it here and only 10 minutes from Pattaya. I have also riden on Koh Chang which has a lot of challenging hills. Also near Lampang out near the lignite power plant, fantastic riding out there, one of my favorite places. I would also recommend a place called Ao Manao one of the best kept secrets in Thailand. This place is off the hook, not only for bike riding but the beaches are great, the seafood is very good and cheap, the air force base there is open to the public and the grounds are gorgeous plus they got the coolest monkeys in Thailand, the black ones with the white eyes on the base. Stay away from the ones at the temple in town. I ride a customized banana yellow Fuji hybrid when I want to go fast and a Trek 4400 mountain bike for cruising the dirt roads. I use SPD's on both bikes and have been riding for about 30 years... If you are out this way and want to ride drop me a note at [email protected]... Ride on!
THAIPHUKET Posted January 18, 2012 Author Posted January 18, 2012 Thank you Montereyjp , very informative, actually never been in or close to Pattaya. Must find a way to transport our 2 recumbent trikes down there, It's too cold in Chaing Mai now anyhow. May get in touch, once I see clearer.
