Was clearing some debris from the garden and found a snake under some old concrete slabs.

Had a shiny brown upper body and a white lower body. About 1 1/2 feet long.

Didn't have the usual snake head, but more pointed.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

It sounds like a ratsnake to me, they are not poisonous and very quick. Grow up to about 6-7 feet up here in NS.

Thanks. Snakes always give me the frightners, and the missus just about has a heart attack when she sees one.

Checked the pictures on the internet, and could very well be one, as there is a large variety and colours of them.

I dunno, but on the train down from Chiang Mai today it stopped and a Thai guy sat opposit me was staring at something out the window. He nudged my knee and pointed at it. It was the biggest head poking out of the grass I'd ever seen. It was way too big to be a snake but it had a forked tongue and was "sniffing" the air with it. It was clearly some kind of reptile, but I'd never seen anything like it. Not in the wild anyway. And certainly not within some small random grassy patch of grassland between some concrete pillars of an overpass within Bangkok. The Thai guy himself seemed completely bemused by it.

This adds nothing to your original post. Sorry.

I'm assuming you have lived here for a few years so am suprised that you are still frightened by them.

Living in a quiet and relatively 'wild' area - I see many. Nearly all Golden Tree Snakes though.

Unfortunately the only snakes I recognise (as I prefer to keep my distance, rather than examine them closely biggrin.png) are Golden Tree Snakes and Cobras and, I only recognise Cobras if they are standing up with their hood out or, my dogs are barking aggressively but keeping their distance.....

However, I have found that nearly all the snakes I have come across have run away. And, they only show aggressive characteristics when I approach, having been attracted by the noise my dogs are making. Or, when the dog I brought from England (who doesn't understand the danger), gets too close.

Monitor lizard?

I just checked what a monitor lizard looks like and it could well have been, but it seemed a lot bigger than most of the pictures on google images.

Monitors can get pretty darn big.

There's a little dark brown harmless snake here, local name ngoo sokaplok (coz it lives in the brush etc) with blue markings. Never gets very big and totally harmless. Anyone have an idea what it is in english?

I think that the snake that you are referring too is a Brahminy blind snake

Here in Thailand and most of the world we are dealing with the metric-system... So forget your feets and talk about cm and meter instead please....

Nope, not shiny like that, dull brown, with blue flecks...and way bigger, just not as big as a cobra or python, i guess it's all relative to what you think is a small snake :P
