Google Will Now Access And Use All Your Personal Data And Browsing History

Actually that makes lots of sense, what was the point of keeping everything separated in the first place? It was merely a consequence of different services developed at different times, and now with the growing importance and integration by the new Google Plus service, they want to integrate as much as they can into one individual account.

The most important thing for me is the option to turn off personalization if I need to - but in most situations I found out that I get more efficient search results with personalization turned on.

How do you turn it off?

Simply log out.

And remove the cookies.

Read somewhere that even after logging out of facebook the cookies were still around to identify you.

Finally, something to make Bing appealing to more people.

I still predict Google backing off after a backlash.

Bing is not much better.

They're owned by Microsoft, one of the most unscrupulous companies out there. You think they wouldn't track you and make a profile of you if they could?

Use a privacy aware search engine and use https (SSL).

There are a couple and my current favourite is duckduckgo.

You can also look at ixquick.

Scroogle is an interface to use google via "proxy" but google doesn't like them too much so it doesn't always work.

If you have nothing to hide than whats the problem ??

Please send me your credit card number, expiry date, CVS number, Phone pin, social security number, passwords to all your sites and bank accounts.

Thanks!

No need for private message, you don't need privacy you say?

Why would I send you all my private details.

Are you trying to imply that Google has all those details automatically if you use the Web ??

Nothing to hide? http://donttrack.us/

Another alternative to https://duckduckgo.com/

is https://startpage.com/

You will need to adjust settings for the search engine as needed.

Thanks to this post I am now using DuckDuckgo.

Now I am not being bombarded with adverts for flights to BKK and for electronic showers - the two things I have searched for recently since I came back for my UK break. Google and yahoo had these adverts on every page I visited.

So Google has lost me as a customer.

Your Google Web History will be removed and paused.

Sure they are. Logout is completely useless. Cookies are used for tracking you so you have to remove them / block them to get rid of it.

That would be a bit of a pain though because Cookies are also used for various legit purposes such as tracking your session when logged in.

For that reason, I like the alternative search interfaces like startpage.com the best. That's cool.

so what. as long as it allows them to provide me with a better more customized service, fine with me.

Couldn't agree more......

Far too many people worried over nothing. If you're not happy with the Web turn the clock back 20 years and go from there.....

We here in oz have had people on the very popular morning shows showing everyone how to disable it. People are very very concerned with what not only google is doing but also Facebook.

Facebook has been accessing text messages you send/receive on your phone and can also intercept your calls.

Of course they only use it to give you better service...yeah right.

Getting near impossible to do things in private anymore.

Huh?

I don't like them tracking me, and I also dislike the "customized" services they offer. I feel better about a balanced algorithm that collects search results in a neutral manner and doesn't try to streamline them for me. Computers aren't that smart.

So I use startpage.com.

End of story & not a big deal. And F U to the ad trackers.

I am sure they'd love to access your text messages but on iPhone / iOS at least they can't, there is no API for it. That is if I write an iPhone app, it can't access your messages. Period.

According to this they can, and do. They can do it because it is in their own App when you download it for a phone.

Facebook said that it wanted access in order to test its own messaging service, and that permissions granted to Facebook by the user when installing the app are clearly explained on the Android marketplace page. And that they are. In the Permissions tab, Facebook says installation gives its app permission to Send SMS messages

It's possible to disable any granted permissions on android via a freely available app.
