Photo man drowns at Chiang Mai dam

CHIANG MAI: -- A photographer in Chiang Mai was feared drowned yesterday after falling into a dam’s spillway to the Mae Kuang Udom Thara River.

About 200 people watched as the man tried to take a shot of the overflowing water from the dam, which has inundated vast areas in Doi Saket and San Sai districts.

San Sai police said a team of divers were searching for the man’s body.

More than 10,000 packs of food and drinking water were distributed in four tambons of Doi Saket district and three tambons and two housing estates in San Sai. Four flat-bottomed boats were made available to transport people from flooded areas.

The provincial relief authority in neighbouring Lamphun province has issued flood warnings to people living in five tambons near the Mae Kuang River. The current water level is 3.22 metres and the critical mark is five metres, authorities said.
