Kindly share your view and what pre paid Data card you use. I need something that is fast to surf internet on-the-go in Bangkok , Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son.

I am thinking of buying a 3-5 GB of 3G and will be using mainly on website surfing, what telco have the best coverage and fastest 3G speed.

Thanks for reading and appreciate for some kind advice. Cheers.

Regards Roui

Do you already have an air-card? If so, which brand, make, model.

We have 3G providers operating on 850 Mhz (TrueMove H, DTAC/Happy) and on 900 Mhz (AIS/One-2-Call).

It would help if you could share as much information as possible re: your situation as it will help us refine possible recommendations. In theory you could use any one of these as they all have 3G coverage in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. They all offer plans at 3 and 5 GB I believe, and all are "unlimited" so you drop to 384 Kbps once you hit your limit. There is a limited experience base here, and the situation is always changing so it is challenging to recommend a single, best-in-class provider.

Thanks great piece of input. Anyway I do not have a Aircard, but I am using a tablet, so I don't think i need one.

May I know from the three providers, which one is more recommendable? I choose the one that covers more area and good speed. Thanks again!

As I said, "There is a limited experience base here, and the situation is always changing so it is challenging to recommend a single, best-in-class provider."

Can you share any details about your tablet? Evidently it is 3G-capable? Which 3G frequncies does it support? Sharing the make and model number would be great.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 3G will work with any/all providers here, any of which should be fine.

Thanks buddy!!! It seems Truemove is best option?

Possibly as it looks like they may also have 3G in Mae Hong Son; you should consult the coverage map to confirm.

Anything ever came out of the AIS - TOT roaming deal?

I understood AIS customers could roam on TOT 2100MHz when outside of AIS 900 network. Did they ever signed and activated this deal?

I am up in Fang area with my Galaxy Note. I have been using DTAC for years which gives me a year of use every time I top-up. I do not use the phone to call much but since getting the smartphone am using other things like maps and internet. I have no idea what all this 3G stuff means and does.

If it gets me internet and better maps/GPS etc. when out and about and not restricted by WiFi then it is probably what I need.

Any recommendations for a 60 year old who catches on a bit slow...( my phone is much smarter than me...lol).

I do not want to have to change my phone number....is the 3G also mean I have to change my sim?

3G is a mobile broadband technology which allows you to connect to the internet at high speed, ~ 1 Mbps, using the wireless mobile telephone network.

Reviewing the respective 3G coverage maps it doesn't look like DTAC or AIS have 3G coverage in Fang, although both cover Chiang Rai.

It does look like TrueMove H have coverage in that area, I'll leave it to you to verify: http://www.truemove-h.com/en//3gwifi_network_coverage.aspx

And TOT does show a tower in Fang and Mae Ai. http://www.i-bkk.com/ilocation/viewer/

If you wanted 3G from TrueMove H or TOT, and you wanted to keep the same number, you would have to "port" (transfer) your DTAC telephone number to TMH or TOT using the MNP (mobile number portability) process.

Maybe WiFi and GPRS/EDGE from DTAC will suffice? Do you use mobile data now with DTAC? If so, do you have a data plan? Or do you primarily use WiFi, say at home?

I have my Windows desktop on wifi but don't do much internet with my Note yet....just use email apps for Facebook/Youtube/Gmail/etc. also on the home wifi net.

Thanks for replying.

girls in Fang shop said DTAC was in Chiangmai and might be in Fang soon so I'll wait and see.

Just back from Thailand using Truemove prepaid Data. 3 GB for 3 weeks. And plus the 100 Mb for my iphone. Technically the connections and the surfing wise is really up to standard, but the downside is the Wifi from Treumove is a pain on the ass.

I could hardly connect to their Wifi on the hotspot. A terrible experience! Can someone recommend anything better than True?

AIS/One2Call have a similar deal with 3BB. Here

thanks......... but it's in Thai ??

Does this help?

It's really simple. you register using an AIS/One2Call SIM, wait for the password and then use it at the relevant HotSpots.

25 baht per week will be deducted from the One2Call SIM.
