BOMB HURLED INTO SCHOOL IN BANGKOK THIS MORNING BUT NO ONE WAS INJURED

A bomb was thrown into a school in Bangkok this morning, causing damage to the school fence and public property, but no human casualty.

A loud explosion was heard at 5.30 am this morning inside an elementary school under the jurisdiction of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. The explosion had damaged a public phone booth and the school fence.

Police found flashlight batteries and a number of electric wires at the site, and initially suspect the crime was carried out by teenage gangsters who have made their own bomb. Officials believe the explosion was aimed only at creating commotion as the bomb exploded when nobody was yet in the school.

Distressed parents of the pupils at the school, located just 400 meters from Lumphini (ลุมพินี) park in Bangkok, were allowed to pick up their children and take them home for today.

PATHUMWAN DISTRICT CHIEF BELIEVED THE EXPLOSION AT LUMPINI SCHOOL THIS MORNING WAS TO CREATE CHAOTIC SITUATION

Pathumwan (ปทุมวัน) District Director SURAKIAT LIMCHAROEN (สุรเกียรติ ลิ้มเจริญ) believed the explosion at Lumpini (ลุมพินี) School around 08.30 a.m. today was aimed only at creating commotion as nobody was at the scene when the bomb triggered. He urged people not to panic about the situation.

Officials from the Scientific Crime Detection Division and Lumpini Police tation investigated the site and found a number of electric wires there. The explosion caused severe damaged to a public phone booth, a flower vast, and a school fence.

Mr. Niphon Laowongsa (นิพนธ์ เหล่าวงษา), a janitor of Lumpini School, said that he was cleaning around the site when the bomb exploded. However, he is not injured.

Meanwhile, Mr. Surakiat said the school still operates normally. He added that the militants targeted the area since many foreigners live near the area, which could help instigate more news reports to exacerbate the situation.

The Deep South troubles finally make their way north?...

Interesting combination with the bomb exploding at the department store in Bangkok, too.

:o

Bombs in Bangkok certainly predate the current violence in the south. Sounds more like the perennial conflicts between vocational school students and the similarly all to common conflicts between business owners of security companies that provide services to departmenmt stores.
