Dinner In Khon Kaen For Mix Of Thais And Falang

Recommended Posts

I'm stopping in Khon Kaen on March 10-12. I'll be bringing my 70 yr old mother from Canada to meet the other side of my family. I am guessing we will have some sort of nice dinner on the 10th for about 20 people, two Canadians and the rest Thai.

Anyone have any suggestions or advice for a nice location for the meal ? Do you think I'd be better just leaving it up to the family to arrange?

Anyone know a nice place that could put out a good spread buffet at a reasonable price per head? Aircon would be a nice bonus. LoL

And if there's any Canucks on here desperate for something from back home please let me know. I'll help if I can.

Cheers,

Tony

Don't know KK but would suggest a family BBQ in one of those open air restaurants. These always go down a hit with the Thais and at a cost of about 100-200 bht per head (on average), it's not going to burn a hole in the pocket either.

If you can afford it, make it more special for the Thais and go in the German Micro Brewery Kronen Brauhouse Bierhaus Restaurant with Live Music in the PULLMANN Hotel in Khon Kaen. (Before SOFITEL)

Behind the Beerhouse Restaurant is also a Chinese-Thai Buffetrestaurant.

In the Beerhouse Restaurant you get German-European and Thaifood as well.

The PULLMAN is the only 5 Star Hotel in Isaan and a special treat for rural Thais believe me. I think the cheapest 5 Star Hotel in Thailand.

The Thais love to marry there also-but not in the Brauhaus.biggrin.png

The music is good, short Karaoke is also possible-if the person can really sing!giggle.gif

Its not to expensive and a special evening for sure. The LIVE band plays well! The Home brewed beer is good! Thais usualy like that evenings there, different from the stuff in their rural communities.

Easy going there no dress problem, I frequent that Hotel and the Brauhaus with shorts!

Parking free of charge in the PULLMAN Garage under the building, just buy something there, let them sign your Parking ticket, for more cars, go to the reception before leaving and let stamp you drive out free of charge on your Parking tickets.

We will have some kids so the beerhouse might not be the best. I like the idea of a Thai buffet. Do they have a lot of those? How much would an upscale one cost per head? Anyone?

Cest Si Bon on rte 12 almost across from the big gate to Khon Kaen University. It's on the service road. Always a hit with my crew.

add some info: about midrange price, AC dining room, but I prefer the covered outdoor area. March shouldn't be too hot. The last time I had a big crew there, it was about 20 of us, 6 to 60, I think we got out of there under 6000 B

I would consider the underground to be very expensive Alfredo,i go there for a treat and for two people a night out with food and beer costs around 2-3000 baht

Cest si bon is a brothel so that would put me off taking the kids there.

Better going to the mookataa place Pink good music and food at 130 bht a head

It is on the road going past the big temple, going out of town just ask for Pink mookataa yai! everybody in khon kaen knows of it.

Have a good evening.

1. My taste is easy satisfied, with the Best what is affordable. In this case in Khon Kaen its the PULLMAN. I never sleep somewhere else in Khon Kaen.

Maybe I eat less expensive food or drink not so much beer, but my bills are not so expensive than yours Mr.Red.

2. I find nothing wrong with a LIVE MUSIC performance with children in a nice Restaurant, a lot of space there to run and dance have fun.

A Bakery shop with special sweet cakes available in the Lobby until 10 PM, Glass Inside Elevators from Parking space, 6 floors up. I think Thai children never saw, used in Isaan.

My children 2 - 10 years always like it in the Pullman and I can sit, eat and drink in the Brauhaus with music. My GF from time to time checks out my boys and their cousins.intheclub.gif An easy remembered special evening, so I would think of a night at the Brauhouse. With such a big group, I am sure the Event Manager at the Pullman, can make special Arrangements for Dinner and drinks, just give them a call.

Anyway, special thimgs, seldom come completely cheap.

Yes Alfredo like i say when i go there for a night out(treat)it is a night out drunk.gif and i do not go out if penny pinching, the beer is very nice and it is expensive for a few juuuuuggggsss!

1 good pizza sets you back 500 baht and then the bill comes with all those dreaded extras angry.png

If you want to impress then yes a great spot.

Mookataa pink for me though cheap food cheap beer ,whiskey and good entertainment from the 2/3 sets.

Yes, I like and maybe the Thais are a bit in a culture shock and consume much less than in the cheap inviroment they used to,

so the bill stays in affordable hights. Pizza? I think Som Tam will be ordered.wink.png

I think the OP stays with you and your idea.drunk.gif

T Bone Steak House.

About 120 for adults, cheaper for kids.

A nice buffet with a large selection of pork, beef and chicken steaks.

A large salad bar, spagetti, chick nuggets, meatballs, bread, sweets, ice cream etc...

A very popular place. They get a lot of students from the university.

Open now at 4:30PM.

On the East side of Mittraphap, South of the hospital.

The food at The T-Bone Steak is cheap and plentiful, but kinda sub-par. The steaks are disappointing.

MrRed:

Cest Si Bon a brothel? I'll have to try the inside dining room next time. I don't see how I could have missed that.

everyone seems satisfied at the pay by the head bbq places with entertainment, cash bar on the side, hot pots........I know a few good ones in Chiangmai, would look for similar in KK.

Yep the beef is poor at T-Bone,i stick to the chicken and pork steaks which are really good and as you say there is lots of other choices there.

Cest si bon is indeed a brothel the inside is a karaoke joint which is great cover for the upstairs activities.

Also behind the stage and footy screen there is another karaoke lounge which i am sure you saw and with it the nice lady's in those short dresses going in and out?

Have not been for a while as my misses doesn't like me goggling the girls there as i sup my sherry!
