Hey all,

Sorry to say going to be getting a divorce from my Thai wife soon. :D

She is from Yasothon but lives in Bangkok and has an ID card with my surname.

So when we get divorced; go to the Amphur office all that hoo-rar and job done,

1, Do we have to go to Yasothon so she can get her ID card remade with her surname? "I don't fancy seeing her mother again" :D

2, How long does it take to get it all sorted out? (Both want a divorce, all simple)

3, Do I need to make a visit to the UK Embassy at all before or after thee event?

Thanks people, won't bore you with my/her sob story :o

I presume that the divorce is by mutual consent, no kids. If so you can apply for the divorce by completing all the documentation at any amphur office if you also was registered at one. If you wish she can change her ID card back to her maiden name at the amphur she is registered as living at later.

You need all the necessary documents when you go ie Marriage cetificates, ID and you will also need to agree in writing that all financial settlements have been made. Also require 2 witnesses to cetify your agreements. Can be done very quickly if they're not busy. Don't need to advise Embassy, but you may wish to make certified translation for future use. If it's mutual ask her to check what is required at the amphur before going, to ensure you can go in and out as quickly as possible.
