Anyone here have experience with your wife (or yourself, ladies) using Clomid? What were your experiences? What was the cost for the meds? My wife is considering using Clomid, as we've been trying for 6 months and she has yet to have an ovulation since getting off birth control in June 2005. Doc in US prescribed her Clomid and now that we're back in BKK, we'd like to find out what experiences people here have had with it.

Thanks

I suggest checking out webmd's forums, they have a fertility forum where women (and men) discuss their fertility issues. You could try posting there to find side effects and success rates. I believe that you would have to go to a Dr for Clomid as it requires some monitoring.

My ex-wife in the UK took Clomid because of irregular periods. The Clomkid got her regular and she became pregnant soon afterwards (had a single child pregnancy, not twins..).

Seems to be good stuff, not sure how/where you get it in LoS.

You'll have to get it from a fertility specialist (there are many here) and unless it's patent has recently expired, it will be almost as costly as in the US, but the doc fees. lab tests etc will be much less. If the patent has expired, then there may well be an inexpensive Thai generic available. Otherwise they'll have imported it from abroad so still pricey.

There are good fertility docs at the main international hospitals. Among government hospitals, Chulalonghorn University Hospital has the best fertility clinic (on the 9th floor if memory serves), if cost is a big concern then that's where to go but you'll need a Thai speaker to help you navigate your way in inititialy. The doctors will speak English, it's getting registered and seen that is tricky if you don't dpeak nd read Thai.

The private international standard hospitals cost more but are vastly more convenient. Can make an appointment first with a specialist online and get seen promptly, bilingual staff everywhere. With government hospitals you may have to go several times jumping through the hoops of patient registration, initial screening by a GP etc before reaching a specalist and there may be a wait. Aside from that the quality is good and Chula's clinic is doing state of the art work.

You don't mention how much of a work-up she (and you) have had. If the Clomid is expensive and you haven't both had thorough fertility work-ups then it is worth doing that in Thailand where it will cost a fraction of what it would elsewhere. The reason being that Clomid will be of little or no benefit if other problems exist (e.g. blocked fallopian tubes, low sperm count) so knowing that could save you money.

It is not unusual for there to be a delay in restarting ovulation after going off the pill, longer the older the woman is, and it will usually resolve on its own if there is no other problem. A full year is not unusual. If the biological clock isn't winding down (i.e. if she's not say late 30's or 40), you could try the cheapest option of all and just wait it out a while longer, especially if you're not too keen on the idea of a multiple pregnancy. Multiple births (twins, triplets) are a common occurrence with these drugs. Up to you.

I agree with the above, my ex came of the pill after many years and it took two years to get pregnant and she was 25 at the time. The only downside was she then got pregnant every time I looked at her and we ended up with 5 kids!

Drugs are not always the answer, she did try cholmid to no avail then after stopping all medication out of the blue she fell pregnant I would suggest being a bit patient and let nature take its course. We had all the checks done as above just in case (blocked tubes, low sperm count etc) but as I say nature took care of it. Hope this helps

:D I used clomid in the UK. Didn't work for me and I felt as though I was menopausal. I have polycystic ovaries and had them laser drilled. Followed this with the clomid and as I say, didn't fall. Decided to leave well alone and our girls are 8 and 4.

I would suggest that you see a obstetrician/gynae consultant to be checked thourougly. In the mean time, your Mrs should start taking folic acid 400mcg daily to prevent neural tube defects. One obs/gyn I would recommend is Dr Sankiat at Samitivej. He is very thorough and knowledgable and helped a friend with huge gynae problems.

Good luck. :o
