Surinam Restaurant In Pattaya (Surprising)

Featured Replies

Pattaya now has a (small, casual) Surinamese food restaurant.

It has been open in its current location for four months.

Not one Malaysia restaurant. Not one Burmese restaurant. Not one Cambodian restaurant.

But a Surinamese restaurant!

I think there is only one Surinamese restaurant in the U.S.A. so it's pretty remarkable that far off Thailand also has ... the one.

It is called something like Rosin Surinam Roti restaurant.

It's located in the same strip mall as the Korean place near Numchai/Tesco off Sukhumwit.

They have a very limited menu, about six items, mostly rice or noodle based, and then there is the roti with chicken curry, and a chicken curry in bread. Chicken, eggs, and vegetables only, but also spices. Prices are very friendly.

Travelers to Holland and also Dutch people are probably familiar with this fusion style of food.

Surinam is a tiny country in South America with a Dutch colonial history.

Are they open for lunch?

Good question, and I don't know, but the look of the place and the fact that they feature a roti meal makes me guess ... probably.

BTW, in case there are followers of cuisines of former Dutch colonies that don't know, there is a large INDONESIAN restaurant in Jomtien, 2nd road, open for dinner only. It features of course a much more ambitious menu than the Surinam hole on the wall, including rijstaffels. The place is called Bali Breeze.

That's an amusing comment, considering that it is more than three times the size of the Netherlands, certainly larger than England and two thirds of the size of the UK.

Good point, but it is a small country for South America, and indeed a TINY population.

So we are all learning more about Surinam. What an unlikely focus.
