jay1980 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I will arrive in bkk on 15th of April, the last day of Songkran..... Staying in Tonglor, about 600 meters up suk 55, will get the airport link to Payathai and the BTS down. I have been in Thailand for Songkran before, but never round this area, are there crazy water games there like near KSR etc, or are things more restrained in this area? cheers
furyrider Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 The crazy water games are all over Thailand. Its part of that holiday 1
creck Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Keep your camera, important papers, ... in plastic bag(s). Relax and enjoy it! The water here does not make you so cold. It is fun - unless you are on business – then sorry. If you are not obviously playing (carrying water or a gun) dressed for business, then most people away from the ‘centres’ will respect your request to stay dry. I remember the comment of my Hotel on my first Songkran when I arrived in the lobby soaking wet “it would be very bad luck if you were not, sir!!”
RedNIvar Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 KSR take it to the extreme. Thonglor has it too, but on the 3rd day it is more subdued. Traffic on 3rd day of Songkran is still good, I'd take a cab straight down from the airport to Thonglor. It should cost you around 200Bhat.
kblaze Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 You will see some people playing with water around Thong lor, mainly the staff from the various businesses and perhaps some of the clubs like Demo, or Funky on Thong lor soi 10 may have songkran festivities (i have never been, and honestly wouldnt expect it as they cater to a high-so type of crowd that generally avoids getting wet/dirty) but the street Thong Lo itself is nothing like KSR or Silom or RCA. I recommend you go to Route 66 at RCA if you are looking for a more crazy experience as it is not far from Thong Lor.
jay1980 Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 thanks for the replies, kinda what I thought... was going to take the airport link and BTS as Songkran often brings traffic jams though... might head out later to catch the end of the party if feel up to it after my flight
