It is not normally a polite thing to do at any funeral but for a funeral of that importance to the whole country you leave the mobile with somebody else.

In Yingluck's position there are many gofers working for her, who if the need is THAT important can get a message to her.

My thoughts exactly. If it is so important you hardly text out in the open for all to see and maybe have the message intercepted. If it is personal very disrepectful at a state funeral.

I cannot imagine any other world leader whipping out their blackberry like that.

Good Lord.

Will you guys just listen to yourselves?

The curtain-twitching members of theThai Expat Etiquette Police's (Armchair Division) have passed down their latest ruling on what's cool and what's not in Thai society.

She's the f***ing Prime Minister, <deleted>. It could be that she's required to have a mobile device about her person at all times in case of emergencies or urgent matters of state - all perfectly valid reasons for sending a Prime Minister a communication during such an important occasion.

Get lives, people. Quick

Think your wrong. It is normal practice for an AID to whisper in the ear if a problem. It's called etiquette which is one of the first things one is taught. cowboy.gif

Urgent matters of state are not communicated by text and if you read my first post you may notice I said a number of my Thai friends thought it disrespectful.

It could be that it's not normal practice in Thailand.

Think wrong again. With all those important folk in attendance, didn't see or hear anyone else fooling around on a mobile phone.

I seem to remember Silvio Berlusconi doing something similar...

Silvio wasn't a leader, he was the European Unions clown.

(read his jokes and comments, they are really funny, once he let Merkel wait because he had to chat on the phone....in front of her)

So just because no one else is getting a communication on a phone, no one else was actually in possession of one, right? So you were there and were able to see everyone in attendance

Look . . . at least try not to be an idiot.

AFAIK, no one else there was the Prime Minister of Thailand.

Please, where can I sign up as a member of the Thai Expat Etiquette Police's (Armchair Division)? I want to share my opinions about ladies wearing sailor suits at royal funerals.

Covered in Thai news, and I would HIGHLY recommend that you remember that this was a ROYAL funeral and that you are expected to show respect.
