Last night I was playing with my 8 year old daughter and her friend. Her friend accidently pushed her finger nail into the cutical of my finger, drawing barely a drop of blood. She immiediatly appologised and you could tell she felt awful. I smiled and told her don't worry it was an accident and not to worry. As my Thai is not that great my daughter translated for me. A few minutes later my daughter is talking to her friend with "Farang" Thai Thai Thai "Farang" Thai Thai Thai, being said. I asked her what she was saying and she told me she was telling her friend.

"When Farang get mad, they are better in few minutes, when Thai get mad they stay mad for long time"

This out of the mouth of an 8 year old little girl.

So what do you think? Do you think she is right? I believe she is 100% correct. If I argue with my significant other I am over it in about 20% of the time that she is.

I'm definitely a quick-up, quick-down person (no, not that way).

I'm invariably back to my normal jolly self within a few minutes, some things make me seethe for longer but they are usually more related to someone questioning my professional integrity rather than a tiff with the Missus.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Could be cultural. Thais tend not to appear angry when in fact they may be seething inside. This can cause them to start acting like a pressure cooker and that 'steam' has to be vented somehow ---- the more 'steam' the longer the 'release.

Me I just let it rip - then calm down quickly.

I agree that in general that when I get mad or angry I tend to cool off a lot faster than any of my Thai counterparts.

When they stay mad during the afternoon and into the evening that is the time to escape to the pub while they get madder wondering what new young lady you are chatting up. :P

Think its a male female thing. Most females can stay angry for ages and remember stupid things of years past. Guys usually forget and forgive. As most guys here interact with females it might look that Thais stay angry longer.

Unless something really irks me I'm in a few minutes, finished with, past event can't do anything about it, done. My wife can stay mad about some seemingly insignificant event for weeks, sometimes months, I've had a stern word to her about it a few times.

All Farangs are the same: No matter if from Sweden or South Italy, Portuguese or Vladivostok, no matter what religion, education age, or personal differences....all same same.

As well all Thais are the same. No matter, all same same....

All Farangs eat bread with sausage, while all Thais eat rice and som tam

no exceptions....

When my Thai wife gets angry, she blows up and gets it all out quickly. A half hour later she is back to her normal smiling self.

As for myself, I have been known to pout for a couple of days. I don't yell and shout, I just clam up and don't talk.

Judging from some of the neighbours' shouting matches that can go on for hours, I would say it's true.

Mind you most of the shouting that I hear is normally female. The poor blokes can't get a scream in edgewise :)

Whats the point of staying angry about something, lifes to short.

I think people that soak and stay angry for longer than an hour our just big babies. Talk about it and get over it. So what if she finds out about the other girlfriends, there is plenty to go around. The last part was a joke. But hay, a problem is as big as you make it.

One thing i have noticed is, Thai women can make something really stupid into something as big as the world is ending and they wont let it go. It's as if they want to keep going untill something bad comes of it. Never happens though because it takes a hell of a lot to make me blow my top.

I find it sad that your daughter thinks of you as 'farang'.

Why?

I also think of my wife as Chinese-Thai because she is.

When my wife and I have an argument we usually get over it very quickly; certainly by the end of the day.

When my wife and 21 year old daughter have an argument they wont talk to each other for days, sometimes more than a week, each waiting for the other to admit they were wrong and apololgise!

Eventually my efforts at diplomacy bear fruit and they are friends again as if nothing had happened; until the next time.

Yup.

And anyway, not all farang dudes here quickly get over things. Some posters here clearly have been angry at Thailand, and possibly the entire world, for years

I would hope my children talk about me as 'Dad' or 'Paw' and not a 'thing'

if you took the time to read the OP, you would see the child was GENERALIZING about the traits of 2 different cultures/races.

get off your high horse and quit wasting our time with your personal bugbears.

I always thought generalising about the traits of two different races was defined as 'racism'

I believe there is even a forum rule, prohibiting posters making such generalisations.

Me too. Let rip/ There's nothing breaks the ice in a tricky situation like a raucous fart

and again you read selectively, did you note the term cultures in use there? why are you determined to call a child a bigot?

you are squealing about the the use of a single term that offends you in the midst of what i consider a very perceptive remark by an 8 year old.

i venture again, it is you with the issue.
