Dos And Don'Ts When Writing A Help Wanted Ad.

Laws and places are different, and I am looking for advice on writing a helpwanted ad for Craigslist or TV. Of course I would like to say you must be young and hot, but what is really legal and practical. The job would be in BKK.

Don't know the actual legalities, however, I have seen advertisement for employment by well known brands in addition to educational requirements specifying age, height, weight and "subject to approval" by hiring manager etc.

Stuff that would land you with a discrimination law suite in Australia.

There are no discrimination laws applying to employment here in Thailand you may advertise for exactly what you want or who you require with immunity

Same in the US. I remember Cal State Chico getting sued for saying they wanted an "energetic personality," which was determined to be discriminatory against Asian Americans.

Take a look at Abercrombies hiring policies, but they are very well known for hiring very young, very thin, attractive people and will and have fired people for getting fat/looking how they dont want them to. Id imagine your craigslist add wouldnt attract to much attention..

I scan Craigslist regularly for fun, and the occasional deal on a fire sale, and one of the funnier things are all the ads from farangs advertising a position directly to wait staff or maids or whatever, as if the girls at the bar even know what Craigslist is. Ever notice that 99.99% of all CL ads are in English? That's because almost zero Thai people use it other than the staff who are hired by real estate companies to spam it (same for TV classifieds). If you want to hire Thai people online you need to go to the popular Thai forums and advertise in Thai (Pantip, Sanook, etc) for someone with English language skills or whichever skills you require.

And, yes, it's legal to specify or ask for (one or the other, or both) most all the things that are illegal in most Western countries such as age, appearance, religion and so on.

i have seen signs up before that specify

good salary available to girl

must be 18-30

attractive appearance

MUST BE comfortable to socialise with male customers

(basically meaning ,just smile politely if you get your ass groped etc )

this was a job to be a waitress in a busy tourist area /not a bargirl or a happy ending shop cheesy.gif
