I'm having problems with my external box (Icy Box). When I connect it to a pc (I've tried this from various pcs) the box will (sometimes) show up in the folder but I can't see / access any of the files on the external HD.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

How can I fix it?

I'm not too bothered if I loose the files already on the HD, but I do need to make a back up of the files on my laptop (that's also not working right).

Thanks for any help you tech savvy members can give me.

try using a different lead to connect between box and pc. at least try reversing ends if both ends are usb. Corrosion of the contacts can occur, your pc may suggest you format the drive, no way do this. AA

Sometimes, the drive letter gets lost in translation. Right click on My Computer or Computer, go to Manage, then go to disk management. The drive should be listed, but possibly no drive letter.. Assign a drive letter, you should be able to see the files.

Tried this a few times, but still can't "find" the external HHD... the cursor just keeps spinning and finally I have to end the task (via task manager).

I even tried reformatting the external HHD but that didn't work... Any more suggestions out there?
