I woke up with pain in my upper arm and my hand feeling numb.

The pain has increased and now the whole arm is very sensitive to touch.

Painkillers and Ibuprofen aren't that effective, making me wake up evey hour or two

when the pain becomes too much.

Q: Know a neuro surgery? An independent chiropractor? I would like to avoid

the hospital's overhead. I'm in Pakkret, near Don Muang (the old airport).

Thanks,

Chris

You don't say whether it's the left or the right arm, if it's the left I would urge you to see a doctor sooner rather than later, if it's the right and it's likely that your sleeping position was the inital cause your idea of seeing a chiropractor sounds reasonable. Sorry I can't help with a name but I thought it sensible to distinguish which arm. If you don't get any answers as to chiropractors you might try sending a PM to Sheryl, Moderator, since she has many contacts for such folks, in the Bangkok area.

About 1 year ago I saw Dr. Don at bioenergy asia on Suk 23. http://www.bioenergyasia.com/

He was good and was confident he could fix my problem (my coccyx is uturned back in reverse), but he is expensive at 2000b per time. I didnt follow through a year ago mainly due to cost and time he wanted to spend. 3-5x a week for 6+ months is what he thought it was going to take, so about 240,000b cash to fix my problem.

With the caveat that you feel otherwise well......

Be aware that most back problems resolve in two to four weeks. MRIs are starting to be contraindicated for anything less than 6 weeks.

Osteopaths and Chiros can occasionally help resolve a knotted area, but you may be best just taking voltaren one at night one next morning see if it eases.

There are many things this could be, not all of them spinal in nature.

The best advice I can giv e is to see an orthopedic specialist. And for that, you will have to go to a hospital because in Thailand that is where most doctors (and virtually all top specialists) have their outpatient private practice. It makes considerable sense since it saves them the costs of maintaining their own office/administrative and support staff and provides ready access to laboratory, imaging etc.

The "hospital overhead" as you put it is usually not much - typically between 50 - 200 baht depending on the hospital. (Do NOT, however, buy medications at a hospital pharmacy as that mark-up is considerable).

Dr. Mason at Bumrungrad comes very highly recommended by many TV members.

I would caution against a chiropractor, and also against massage, until the cause of the problem has first been identified. Depending on what it is, some types of manipulation could make matters worse. Once the doctor has found out the cause, ask him whether it is safe for you to undergo chiropractic treatment and whether there are any particular types of manipulation which should be avoided.

It's the right arm. The whole arm is sensitive to touch and I feel some swollen areas.

Thank you so much for your answers - I appreciate them so much!

You need a doctor

Quote - "The basic idea of classical chiropractic is that "

subluxations" are the cause of most medical problems. According to classical chiropractic, a "subluxation" is a misalignment of the spine that allegedly interferes with nerve signals from the brain. However, there is no scientific evidence for spinal subluxations and none have ever been observed by medical practitioners such as orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, or radiologists. On May 25, 2010, The General Chiropractic Council (GCC), a UK-wide statutory body with regulatory powers, issued the following statement

The chiropractic vertebral subluxation complex is an historical concept but it remains a theoretical model. It is not supported by any clinical research evidence that would allow claims to be made that it is the cause of disease or health concerns.

Even so, chiropractors still maintain that spinal adjustment is the key to good health."
