Slide Show Software - Rolled My Own

Featured Replies

The software I've been using to create web-based slide shows (PhotoPage) is kind of old fashioned and no longer supported by the author. One drawback is that it creates a separate HTML document for each and every photo.

An example is here: Ayutthaya December 2005

I know there are a number of free, shareware and commercial products out there, but the ones I looked at were either needlessly complex or full of way too many "features".

So, I decided to roll my own. However, since I only have Macs at home I have been able to view it with a PC or linux box. If you have the time, please take a look and let me know if you have any problems with it.

The index page is here:

Slide Show

There is only one "show" listed now (Bangkok, December 2005). Just click on that link to go to the slide show.

I'm especially interested if you have problems with either display or navigation. If you do, post here with the details or send me a PM or e-mail via the link on the index page.

Thanks in advance for your help.

FYI - All the slide show data is stored in a MySQL database. A single document uses PHP to display the index, the thumbnails and the individual photos. So, I've gone from having a document for every photo to just one document for everything.

Seems to work just fine with Internet Explorer and Opera, loads fast, sensible size thumbnails. :o

I am a great advocate of KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) so the minimalist interface appeals.

It may be nice to have a timeout to move on automatically to the next slide.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

No problem with Maxthon Browser, fast load as well.

Nice pics btw :o

Explorer :D

Good idea. I'm still learning PHP, so that will be a good challenge....

And, thanks for testing.

Works well with Firefox 1.5 (Win XP). Loads fast. Does you program include a process for optimizing the file size of the thumbnails and full size images?

Thanks for the feedback.

I create the full size images and thumbnails separately. The images are saved as JPEG's with 75% quality.

May I inquire, how you are able to use Google Earth on your Macs? This app has no Mac version. :o
