S2 Upgraded To 4.0.3

Featured Replies

Just installed the Kies,

It checked for the update and showed me this:

post-111234-0-78353700-1338718340_thumb.

What kind of update is this one? How do I know if it's ICS or just GB of a later build (mine is 2.3.3)?

It is Android 4.0.3, aka ICS.

So that LP9 stands for the ICS 4.0.3 then?

Yes I bought my S2 in Singapore.

Good, update is available, now on to find the way to root it after the update and remove the triangle. Also need to research the compatibility with some important apps...

Thanks

You could save yourself the trouble and flash a rooted version of ics 4.0.4

There is some excellent versions on XDA now

The mentioned important apps don't work on my brother's Nexus with 4.0.4. Not sure if it's the ICS compatibility issue or the Nexus itself. Will wait till other's polish it all up before going that way. :D

I'm reading the XDA forum now, looking for the ways to Root the ICS S2.

In this tread

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487

There are various CF-Root Kernels for matching firmaware but there is no root for Singapore FW (LP9).

There are also no FW for the Thailand (in the download links on a first page), but it looks it's the same FW (DXLP9) for Singapore and Thailand.

Anyways, the question is: how do I root the ICS S2? Lomatopo, you mentioned you did that, how did you do it?

Anyone else have done it? What are the ways to root the ICS, something simple please, I don't know much about modifying kernels and replacing parts of is and so on, I'm - give me files, tools and instructions type of person and I'm not tech newbie but now as advanced as some of the guys on the XDA site.

Just found this topic on xda and reading it right now.

Looks like all I need is in this topic.

Yes, I think that is the correct thread/procedure for rooting. I am pretty sure I used CF-Root-SGS2_DX_THL_KL3-v5.0-CWM5.zip
