Freelance (On-Call) Computer Tech Needed

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Our small family company is looking for a computer tech that can come into the office whenever there are computer related issues.

Location: On Nut area

# computers: 8-10

OS: XP & Win 7

Basically, I'd like to find a good tech, have them come in to get a good understanding of our environment (software & hardware, etc). Then as we have any computer related issues, we call them in and pay per visit. We are looking for a 1-day response time. Can anyone recommend someone for this?

Hmmm....you're probably better off with this in either the Bangkok forum or the computer forum. Why don't we try the techie forum first. If that doesn't get you what you're looking for, let me know and we can move it over to the Bangkok forum.

Topic Moved.

If the problem is hardware related, why not, but if it is software related (which is often the case), I would not recommend that, as you might very likely loose your data in the "repairing" process: often, those guys only reformat the hard disk and then restore a basic image of a generic Windows installation without saving the customer's data.

We outsource ours to a Thai guy named Amnaj (Top) PM me and I'll send you his info.biggrin.png

Not really. You have to unhook everything, carry it all over the place, wait for it to be fixed, bring it back home, plug everything back in....ugh. I have home service for my PC. They charge peanuts to show up at my house and fix it. Plus, if it's connectivity related, the work has to be done where the PC is located.

If it is hardware related they have parts to swap.

Swap the HD

Swap the Memory

Swap the CPU

Swap......

till you find the problem and if one shop can not than go to the next.

As well when some soldering need to be done.

But most simple problems I can fix myself, so when I go it is something difficult.....

I make images from all HDs from time to time. So if I am lucky I can just play back the last working image + the latest data.....

It isn't always that easy.

A couple of weeks: broken HD. I had one spare swapped it, booted recovery software from USB, restored the image and everything was ready in 10 min.

(which surprised myself.......even all the protected software still worked....my personal speed record of a quick fix of a big problem).

We've been using a small IT company for 4 years for our central Bangkok office. K. Patt and his team set up the network, server and our lap tops and calls in whenever we have a problem. Worked out well for us and cost not high. If you are interested, PM me and I'll send you his details.

Hi h90. We currently have no issues in-house, it is more precautionary to be prepared for when an issue comes up. We do back-up regularly... which is why I am replying. We use Crash Plan back-up / recovery. It synchs all our computers and backs up all data in real-time to our server and 3 data center locations. So, as soon as someone in the office saves a new files, it is saved to secure locations. Its awesome, and has worked incredibly for us.
