First Time New Car Purchase & Bht100,000 Gov Rebate

Recommended Posts

The car just need to have been ordered before 31st december, but you need to do the application before this date to the relevant office.

Whats the application that needs to be made? We ordered a car in August but haven't done anything re: the rebate.

You have to register that you ordered the car before 31st december.

I don't know exactly in which office you can do that, in my case, there was some kind of event at the suzuki dealership with a government stand. We filled a form a gave them a copy of the order slip. We were told to show them the blue book to finalize the procedure when we receive the car next year.

By the way, we asked the government officer if a purchase with a finance company was compatible with the rebate plan, of course it is was the reply, and the rebate will be paid fully one year later (and not 20k/year as someone was implying).

Our friend who ordered their suzuki said we take a booking slip/form to the tax office, and another form is filled in there. If you are paying on finance you won't have the blue book. So how will that work when you need to finalise the procedure? I only got the blue book to our old car when I had paid it off in full.

There are some uninformed opinions being aired here that do nothing bit confuse the matter.

A first hand experience posted by PoolHustler (#113) makes a mockery of some of the ridiculous claims previously posted.

Just as PoolHustler explained my step daughter also purchased a Ford Fiesta. Prior to doing so she sought full information from the dealer & then confirmed that with the office handling the rebate.

In her case the price of about 700,000 Bt. results in a rebate of 100,000Bt. The fact that the vehicle is financed has zero impact on the rebate which shall be transferred to her account. All the paperwork required to register for the rebate was provided by the dealer about one week after she took delivery.

The other matter that is being misrepresented here is the rate of Thailand's vehicle production since the floods. Suggest those thinking production is down should read here:

http://bestsellingca...the-first-time/

"A record 1,000,577 new cars found a new home in Thailand over the first 9 months of 2012, up a huge 71% year-on-year!

Total domestic sales in 2011 were 794,081 units, placing Thailand at #20 in the world’s biggest car markets ranking. In 2012 it should shoot up to #13, passing countries like Spain, Turkey, Mexico, Australia and… regional rival Indonesia."

As the primary intent of the rebate was to offer a boost to the Thai car factories savaged by the floods of November 2011 .... it would seem that the Governments intent has been achieved.

Asking for a friend whistling.gif . He is financing a new 2.5 Isuzu Hi-Lander Extra cab. First time buy for his lady smile.png .

He has been told a 10,000 bht rebate bah.gif . Doesn't sound right to me.

Yep, doesn't sound right for a Highlander extra cab - should be more like 15K - 17K Baht rebate.

Hardly worth it on 2-door pickups though as they only have 3% excise tax in the first place. Has he considered getting a double-cab instead? - the Highlander 4-door gets a 72K - 92K rebate, depending on model...

It's going to be used around their farm wants load space, plus road tax is cheaper.

There certainly are. The problem is they are based on what someone says someone-else wrote, not what was actually written - rather as you are doing.

Nobody has said that the rate of vehicle production is down "since the floods". What was written was that there have been " delays in production due to the flood" which is totally different. Considering the amount of vehicle production lost DUE to last year's floods either directly due to flooded factories or indirectly due to a shortage of parts, it is hardly a surprise that production and local sales are up this year and that the backlog of orders from last year has been the main reason for delays in delivery (as well as a major factor in car sales for this year).

The "primary intent" of the scheme was to boost the economy and increase the number of "eco-cars" bought in Thailand, nothing to do with propping up an already booming domestic car production. Quite how much it has achieved that aim is highly questionable - according to the Excise Department 1,200,000 people will be getting the rebate - a figure which hardly seems possible given the total number of new cars sold in Thailand.
